Issue

Obama’s Plan Put on Ice by Federal Judge’s Ruling – DOJ Likely to Appeal

Details

Democrats in the US Senate continue filibustering the House-passed bill that would fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), but not fund President Obama’s executive amnesty.   Funding for DHS runs out next Friday, February 27th. On Monday a federal judge in Texas, Andrew Hanen, issued a 123-page ruling that stopped Obama’s executive amnesty.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has offered a compromise to Democrats that would allow Senators to offer amendments in an alternating fashion between Republicans and Democrats. Sen. Durbin objected to this opportunity, suggesting that the Senate simply take up a separate, Senate-originated DHS funding bill. Perhaps Senator Durbin should read the US Constitution which specifically says all funding bills must originate in the US House!
