Issues

Back From Washington, DC

Details

Yesterday Diane Gramley participated in a news conference at the National Press Club in Washington, DC to announce the formation of the international Coalition for Family Values.  The endeavor is being spearheaded by Scott Lively of Defend the Family  International and Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality.   The coalition, while acknowledging there are Russian policies we do not accept,   issued a statement praising Russia for passing laws to protect their children from homosexual propaganda.

As Gramley went to the podium to begin her remarks, three homosexual activists stood, two shouted her down as Scott and Peter asked them to wait until the Q & A segment.  They refused and Scott asked security to escort them out.   Of course,  this was their intent as before the news conference was over they had already posted on the internet that gay activists had been “thrown out” of Lively’s news conference.

NOTE:  as you read the following stories, remember this is not “friendly” media.

From Mother Jones:   “Through the Coalition for Family Values, Lively and LaBarbera intend to promote other types of legislation, including a bill to protect discrimination based on sexual orientation. (Lively casts it as a matter of religious freedom.) So far, they say, 75 pro-family organizations around the globe have signed on. Those listed in press materials are mostly obscure groups, but a few prominent social conservative outfits have joined, including Liberty Counsel Action and the American Family Association. “Other nations, including the United States, could learn from Russia and stop the homosexualization of our nation,” Diane Gramley, a representative of the AFA’s Pennsylvania affiliate told the crowd at Friday’s event. “It’s time for the United States to stop using our children as lab rats to see how they react to homosexual propaganda.”

You can read the Coalition’s full statement on Mother Jones’ website here.

Listen to Diane Gramley’s interview with Scott Lively as they talk about the SMUG lawsuit against him that the media referred to several times during the Q & A.
