Confirmation Hearing on Federal Communications Commission Nominee

Details

There will be confirmation hearing held this afternoon for President Obama’s FCC nominee Michael O’Rielly.  He must be asked at least one simple question:  “Will he do his job and enforce the federal decency law?”

Did you know it is illegal in the United States to air indecency on broadcast television during a 16-hour time slot each day?  The federal decency law, 18 U.S.C. Section 1464, prohibits profanity and indecent material, including nudity, on broadcast TV between 6 AM and 10 PM.  The problem is:  the FCC has not been enforcing the law!

Action Steps

Call the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and ask them to address the issue of broadcast indecency during the hearing .

Take a couple minutes to make two phone calls to address this issue.  Here’s the message:  “Ask Mr. O’Rielly if he will do his job and enforce the federal decency laws.”
