Issue

Stopping Taxpayer Dollars from Funding “Sex Change” Surgeries for Children

Details

Last Monday the State House unanimously passed  HB 1388 — the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).     In the process House leadership chose to pass a “clean” bill, which means it does not include Senator Don White’s amendment which banned taxpayer dollars for  not only “sex-change” surgeries,  but also banned reimbursement  for puberty blockers/hormone treatment  and pro-transgender counseling for children within the program.

However, this may be a good thing since much of the text in Senator White’s amendment had been stripped from the bill and only banned taxpayer funding for the actual surgery.  Take a look here down on page 2 of the version that passed in the State Senate.   So, House leadership’s plan is to quickly pass HB 1933  which is a much better bill including most of Senator White’s amendment language.   The day the CHIP bill passed in the House, HB 1933 was voted out of the State House Health Committee and now awaits a final vote in the State House.

Governor Wolf will probably threaten to veto the bill if it reaches his desk, so pray that the legislative body passes this bill with a veto proof majority.
