Stop This Attempt to Hijack the Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing

Details

Activists and Liberal Senators are planning to hijack tomorrow’s 10:00 a.m. Senate Judiciary Committee hearing – which is a routine executive business meeting on several bills and low level nominees.  The other side plans to use it as an opportunity to “jump up and down” and scream that the Constitution requires a “hearing” and a “vote” on Obama’s yet to be named US Supreme Court nominee.  Of course, the words “hearing” and “vote” are not in Art II, Sec. 2 – but since when does that stop activist judges and their supporters from demanding results not supported by the Constitution.

The meeting will be held in Room 226 of the Dirksen Senate Building in Washington, DC. As the Judicial Action Group notes, “The Scalia vacancy is the most important issue in the Senate this year, one of the biggest issues in the Presidential race and certainly the most consequential judicial vacancy in American history!”

On February 23rd all eleven GOP members of the Senate Judiciary Committee signed onto a letter pledging not to hold hearings on any nominee for the Supreme Court vacancy until a new President is sworn in next year.

Senators on the Committee who are committed to “No hearing” and “No vote” deserve our support in this critical hour!  They must hold their ground or we will get another Obama nominee in the same mode as Elena Kagen and Sonia Sotomayor.
