Supreme Court Marriage Decision

Details

In anticipation of next week’s Supreme Court decision, the AFA of PA has signed onto a statement entitled: “We Stand in Solidarity to Defend Marriage and the Family and Society Founded Upon Them.”

Next week the United States Supreme Court is expected to hand down two decisions that could change America forever.  Those decisions are to decide the constitutionality of California voter-approved Proposition 8 and the federal Defense of Marriage Act.  We, of course, have no idea how the decisions will come down.  The uncertainty in itself is mind-boggling, but Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia warned in his dissent in the 2003 Lawrence v. Texas case, which struck down that state’s sodomy laws, that the Court’s decision would open the door to same-sex “marriage.”  Now, fast forward ten years.

Since 2006 thirty-one states have passed Marriage Protection Amendments — some weak, some strong — but Pennsylvania has not passed any constitutional protection for marriage.  Representative Daryl Metcalfe has once again introduced just such an amendment.   HB 1349, a strong two part amendment, was introduced last month in the State House.  It must pass in both the House and Senate in two consecutive legislative sessions before it reaches the ballot for the voters to have a say.

How serious is the other side?  Tomorrow at the Capitol, leaders from the Philadelphia area, and Marriage Equality for Pennsylvania will join for a “marriage equality rally.”   No matter what they are saying, homosexual activists will not be content until so-called same-sex “marriage” is legalized in PA.

Action Steps

1.)  Pray for the Justices of the United States Supreme Court as they make their decision of marriage.  However, we know that whatever they decide God’s definition of marriage has not changed!

2.)  Go to our ACTION CENTER to contact you State Representative and ask him or her to support HB 1349.
