The end of June this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that banned spreading homosexual propaganda to minors. It does not ban homosexual activity, which has been legal since 1993, but bans the indoctrination of minors. Homosexual activists and their allies are expressing outrage that Russia would pass such a law and are especially voicing concern that athletes who identify as homosexual and participate in the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia will be arrested. The Russian government has assured them that will not happen. The “threat” is being taken very seriously by Senator Daylin Leach who is circulating a co-sponsorship memo for a series of resolutions that he has dubbed “To Russia With Rainbows.”
During an August conference of the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association, a scheme was hatched to smuggle in LGBT pride symbols which would then be worn by athletes and other highly visible figures, including celebrities. These actions are intended to flout the host country’s new law banning homosexual propaganda.
Dr. Scott Lively, with Abiding Truth Ministries, has another idea and shared it with Russian church leaders during a recent trip over there. He writes, “Imagine the Russian Olympics taking place under a giant rainbow banner declaring that the rainbow belongs to God! And rainbow symbols incorporated in virtually every aspect of the games and the celebrations surrounding them. The scheme to display rainbows as a rebellious act by Hollywood celebrities, and left-leaning Olympic contenders would be rendered impotent. The “gay” movement would be thwarted in its attempt to steal for itself what belongs to God and to all of us as His children. And, best of all, the entire world, including the “gays,” would be reminded of the truth of the Bible: that God gave us the rainbow as a reminder not only that He judges sin, but that He forgives and heals those who repent.”
