A Plan Too Good to be TrueIllegal children

The number of minor children crossing or attempting to cross the U.S. southern border unaccompanied by a parent or other adult relative has exploded from 6,560 in 2011 to an estimated 60,000 for fiscal year 2014. Border patrol agents in South Texas reported over 1,000 such children were apprehended by officials earlier this month, including a 3-year-old boy from Honduras.

The White House said on July 7th that most of the thousands of unaccompanied minors flooding across the border would likely be deported. Critics have charged that migrant children are able to subvert the process by simply not showing up at immigration courts, which have been overwhelmed by the flood of children.

Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Matthews Burwell met privately with dozens of governors on July 13th as the Obama administration tried to get support from the leaders of states that will host thousands of the Central American children who have crossed the Mexican border on their own since Oct. 1.

Governors of both parties expressed concerns about the cost to states, including providing public education for the children, according to those who attended the meeting. Burwell left the meeting through a side door without talking to reporters.

Additionally, military bases have been retrofitted to house the illegal minors. Military personnel and border patrol agents are now feeding and changing the diapers of babies!!

The FEDERATION FOR AMERICAN IMMIGRATION REFORM (FAIR)reportsPresident Obama assured the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) in a closed door meeting last week he still plans on taking action later this year to further expand his administrative amnesty. The private promise to the CHC comes just after the President requested an additional $3.7 billion from Congress to address the unprecedented surge of illegal alien minors overwhelming the Southern border. Despite Administration claims that violence in Central America is causing the surge, evidence continues to point to President Obama’s lax immigration policies, including the program for young people known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), as the driving force.

So it was refreshing to read the article from The Hill  which outlined a plan being considered by Republicans in the House to address the problem. Surely an article entitled “GOP Plans Guard Troops to Border” must outline a great plan. Well, a cursory review of the article sounded okay, but then you get to the part where the GOP plan would “send the National Guard to the border to help care for the more than 50,000 children who have illegally come over the border . . . .”   Care for?? Shouldn’t they be guarding the border?

However, Senate Budget Committee ranking member Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), who has already said any border bill that Congress considers should deny President Obama funds to grant more work permits to illegal aliens, blasted the House GOP plan saying it is an “Institutional Surrender” to Obama’s “Planned Illegality.”

He notes they did not mention President Obama even once. The plan made no mention of the President’s threat of sweeping new executive actions. Multiple reports indicate that these imminent actions are likely to take the form of administrative amnesty and work permits for 5-6 million illegal immigrants.

Sessions said, “The document also appears to cement the idea that anyone who shows up unlawfully at our border is presumptively entitled to an asylum hearing in the United States.”

“The document calls for President Obama’s Department of Homeland Security to develop a ‘strategy’ and ‘plan’ to secure the border, which is less than what is actually required to do under current law,” Sessions said. “Meanwhile, it omits any discussion of restoring collapsed interior enforcement.

Sessions is also upset that Boehner’s working group makes no mention of the effects this border crisis is having on American citizens.

So much for a solid, well-thought out plan from the GOP in the House! They need to scrap the working group’s plan and go back to square one – keeping the welfare of American citizens and those who have entered the country legally at the forefront of any plan they devise. The children need to be sent back to the countries they came from and it needs to be made very clear the immigration laws in this nation will be upheld — and make sure it’s done!
