Blog Post — A Day We Must Never Forget — 911praying-hands

It all began at 8:46 a.m. fourteen years ago today. America was under attack, but who were the attackers? Where were you when you first heard the news? Experts say the attacks on 911 are one of those things you’ll never forget — you’ll remember exactly where you were and what you were doing when you heard the news. Just like, for those of us who are old enough, remembering where and when we first heard the news that President John F. Kennedy had been shot.

As the tragic day developed, questions and fear continued to abound. Two planes have crashed into both of the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center. At 9:37 a plane crashes into the Pentagon.   Five minutes later the FAA grounds all flights over the US and bound for the US.   Some 3,300 commercial flights and 1,200 private planes were guided to airports in Canada and the United States over the next two-and-a-half hours. Seventeen minutes after the FAA grounds flights the South Tower collapses; in another 29 minutes the North Tower collapses. In the time period between the collapse of the South Tower and the North Tower, Flight 93 crashes near Shanksville, PA. Calls go out for emergency blood donations to aid the anticipated thousands of victims. People stand in line for hours to donate blood, but it soon becomes apparent that there are very few survivors or even bodies of victims — all had been vaporized in the enormous collapses of the towers.

During an 8:30 p.m. address to the nation President George W. Bush called the attacks “evil, despicable acts of terror” and declared that America, its friends and allies would “stand together to win the war against terrorism.”

People flocked to churches to pray. In this time of need, people began to seek God. However, it only lasted a short while. Soon Americans went back to their old ways — ignoring God, “knowing” America could survive without Him. But has America survived? Hardly! Increasingly we see an America we do not recognize.

  • American Atheists Foundation filed a lawsuit to prevent the 17-foot steel-beam cross, found amid the rubble of the once towering World Trade Center from being a part of the memorial on the site of the attacks.
  • The Flight 93 memorial was originally called “The Crescent of Embrace.”   Back in 2005, then-Rep. Tom Tancredo sent a letter to the National Park Service “asking the Interior Department to reconsider the crescent-shaped design of the memorial to those aboard a plane hijacked on Sept. 11, 2001, because some may think it honors the terrorists.” (By the way, that controversy still exists today.)
  • President Obama has used the “bully pulpit” in ways that validate the notion that American misdeeds somehow invited the terrorist attacks.
  • Increasingly we see attacks in the name of jihad on military establishments in the United States
  • Our southern borders are wide open.
  • Rather than spy on phone conversations and emails from the bad guys, it is American citizens who are the targets of government surveillance.
  • Christian symbols and Christian military chaplains are increasingly under attack by atheists and secularists.
  • Christian business owners and government officials are under attack for their moral stands on marriage.
  • Our school children and college students are being indoctrinated that Islam is a religion of peace, that marriage is however we want to define it and that it’s okay for a boy who thinks he is a girl to use the girls’ restroom and locker room.
  • Our elected representatives in Congress (especially the leadership) have rejected the guidelines for the balance of power put in place by the Founding Fathers and allowed unconstitutional regulations and takeovers by the federal government. These same representatives have allowed a tyrannical judiciary to rule the nation as a self-proclaimed oligarchy.
  • Apparently we’ve given up on the war on terror as our leaders have declared the war is over and just yesterday Democrats in the United States Senate blocked an effort in that chamber to end President Obama’s nuclear “deal” with Iran.
  • Beginning next month the US will be allowing 10,000 Syrian refugees to enter the United States. This is to help alleviate a situation created by President Obama’s insistence that the US not seriously get involved to eliminate ISIS. Reports from European countries, which have also allowed Syrian refugees, are that many of the refugees are young men, not women and children.

More could be said, but you get the idea. No, America, the America we know and love, has not survived since September 11, 2001. Instead we see a secularization and de-Christianization of America taking place, which will be her downfall.

BUT there is still hope. The movie “War Room” has seemed to awaken America’s Christians to the need to get into our prayer rooms — our war rooms —  to earnestly and fervently pray.   As the movie ends with the words found in II Chronicles 7:14 — “If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways , then will I hear from heaven and forgive their sin and will heal their land.” We must take the message of the power of prayer portrayed in the “War Room” movie and apply it to our lives. We serve the same God who parted the Red Sea and raised the dead to life. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Why do you think the atheists attacked prayer in schools first, demanding its removal — because they know the power of prayer.

Let us be reminded everyday of its power as we spend time with the Lord.
