Blog Post — The Day After

According to the US Constitution (Amendment 20, Section 1), “The terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th of January . . . .”  That happened yesterday . . . another peaceful transition of power.  Yesterday’s activities were truly unique and most people of the world have never experienced such a transition of power – too many live under dictatorial governments and those are overthrown by a military coup.

By and large yesterday’s activities were peaceful in Washington, DC.  Yes, there were protesters, smashed windows, destroyed cars and trash cans set afire, but it was the inauguration of a Republican President and was to be expected!

Here’s a reminder of what happened in January 2001 when George W. Bush was inaugurated.  This was witnessed by Matthew Mehan, currently the Worsham Teaching Fellow for Hillsdale College’s Allan P. Kirby Center in Washington, D.C. , and took place in front of the Navy Memorial on Pennsylvania Avenue:

“Bush supporters along the rails in front of our press seats who’d been trying to laugh at the silly protestors, changed from quiet, half-hearted chuckling, to booming chants of “Sore-Loserman” and “Give it Uh-up.” The liberal protestors would not be outdone, however, and they began what had the markings of a rehearsed liturgy of hatred.

Their sense of drama was explicit. Like an angry Greek chorus, they would wail and shake, and then turn in on themselves like a black, coiling snake that had just been struck. Suddenly, the ferocious motion and the chants of “F— Bush” would cease, and a space would open up in the throng to reveal a lone actor with a burning American flag. In seconds the chanting and churning of the throng would begin again, and its black coils would spirit away the offending protestor.

CNN, NBC, CBS. All of them had cameras and all of them took front row footage, but none of them told the story that night on the news of what I saw at the inauguration.

The protestors’ boos increased as the preliminary patriotic floats made their way down Pennsylvania Avenue. Each float and limousine passed through the gauntlet of hisses from the anti-Bush mob. One plump Vietnam Helicopter veteran, hanging out of the cockpit of an old Huey, waving cheerfully at the cameras, would have flinched if he’d seen the glass bottle hurled at the back of his head from deep within the sea of signs and ski-masks. Fortunately, the bottle just missed, shattering the silver-haired veteran’s smile into little shards on the street.”

Today is the so-called “Women’s March in Washington, DC.   It’s Mission (in part):  “The rhetoric of the past election cycle has insulted, demonized, and threatened many of us – immigrants of all statuses, Muslims and those of diverse religious faiths, people who identify as LGBTQIA, Native people, Black and Brown people, people with disabilities, survivors of sexual assault and our communities are hurting and scared. We are confronted with the question of how to move forward in the face of national and international concern and fear.

In the spirit of democracy and honoring the champions of human rights, dignity, and justice who have come before us, we join in diversity to show our presence in numbers too great to ignore. The Women’s March on Washington will send a bold message to our new government on their first day in office, and to the world that women’s rights are human rights. We stand together, recognizing that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us.”

To give you a little idea where these guys are coming from Honorary Co-Chairs include:  Angela Davis (former leader of the Communist Party USA, counterculture activist), Dolores Huerta (co-founder with Cesar Chavez of Agricultural Workers Association),  pro-abortion feminist Gloria Steinem, social activist Harry Belafonte and environmentalist/world peace movement activist LaDonna Harris.

The “Exclusive Premier Sponsor” is Planned Parenthood.  Other sponsors are the Natural Resources Defense Council, Emily’s List, NARAL Pro-Choice America, ACLU, American Federation of Teachers, Human Rights Campaign  (largest homosexual lobby group in the nation), Peace is Loud,  1199 SEIU and Move-on.org.

Interesting that the list of partners include the American Atheists, American Humanist Society and Americans United for Separation of Church and State!  The anti-Second Amendment group Cease Fire PA and SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania seem to be the only PA groups.  Partner Center for Biological Diversity even has a Trump Action Toolkit!  Even the Communist Party USA and the NEA are partners with the march!   Several homosexual groups are partners:  GSA Network,  GLAAD, GLBTQ Legal Advocates and Defenders, GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network),  Human Rights Campaign, National Center for Lesbian Rights,  National Center for Transgender Equality,  PFLAG (Parents, Friends of Lesbians and Gays), Transgender Law Center and The Trevor Project. The anti-Christian Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and extremely liberal YWCA are also partners.   The complete list of partners can be found here  It’s a pretty extensive list, but I encourage you to go through it in order to see just how far left these protestors’ views are!

As Washington, DC resident Ashley E. McGuire writes, ” The march might as well have placed scare quotes around the word “Women’s,” or better yet, have renamed itself “The March for Abortion.” Then it would have cleared up any confusion about pretending to represent all women, when almost half of us self-identify as pro-life and would probably feel more at home at the March for Life, set to take place the following week.”

Twelve “sister marches”  in PA are listed on the website:  Beaver, Doylestown, Erie, Harrisburg, Indiana, Lancaster, Lewisburg, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Reading, Selinsgrove, Sharon.

Looking through the list of sponsors and partners tells the whole story:  this is simply a group of left-leaning women (and men) who don’t like the fact they lost the November election and their desires to continue advancing their “progressive” ideas have been halted for the present.   This also shows the importance of Christians being involved in the political process.  It has been noted over and over that it was the Christian vote that put Donald J. Trump over the top.  Now is not the time for us to sit back and breathe a sigh of relief.  The fight for America has just begun and today’s “Women’s March on Washington” is proof that we must stay engaged in order to counter the efforts of the Left.   However, we must also remember that real and lasting change will not come to America because of President Donald Trump, only changed hearts and a changed America can come from God.  I truly believe God has given us another chance to get America back on course.  II Chronicles 7:14 is the answer.  ” If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
