Blog — The Impact of Roe v Wade4 pictures from clinic

Forty-three years ago today the infamous Roe v Wade decision was handed down by the United States Supreme Court. Its decision, as that with marriage on June 26, 2015, went beyond the power the US Constitution outlined for the judicial branch.   Roe v Wade legalized abortion in all 50 states and since that date 58 million little Americans have been killed in the womb. This is truly a holocaust — a word those pushing abortion do not want to hear. The US Constitution gives legislative power to Congress — period — not the Courts — see Article I, Section 1. Is there anyone who has the will to rein the Court in?

Here’s a little history:

In 1959 the American Law Institute (ALI) proposes a model penal code for state abortion laws. The code advocated legalizing abortion for reasons including the mental or physical health of the mother, pregnancy due to rape and incest, and fetal deformity.

On Apr. 21, 1971 the U.S. Supreme Court rules on its first case involving abortion in United States v. Vuitch, upholding a District of Columbia law permitting abortion only to preserve a woman’s life or “health.” However, the Court makes it clear that by “health” it means “psychological and physical well-being,” effectively allowing abortion for any reason.

By the end of 1972 a total of 13 states have an ALI-type law. Four states allow abortion on demand. Mississippi allows abortion for rape and incest [1966] while Alabama allows abortion for the mother’s physical health [1954]. However, 31 states allow abortion only to save the mother’s life.

New York repeals its 1970 abortion law but Gov. Rockefeller vetoes the repeal.

Then on Jan. 22, 1973 the U.S. Supreme Court issues its ruling in Roe v. Wade, finding that a “right of privacy” it had earlier discovered was “broad enough to encompass” a right to abortion and adopting a trimester scheme of pregnancy. In the first trimester, a state could enact virtually no regulation. In the second trimester, the state could enact some regulation, but only for the purpose of protecting maternal “health.” In the third trimester, after viability, a state could ostensibly “proscribe” abortion, provided it made exceptions to preserve the life and “health” of the woman seeking abortion. Issued on the same day, Doe v. Bolton defines “health” to mean “all factors” that affect the woman, including “physical, emotional, psychological, familial, and the woman’s age.”

On February 21, 2011 Dr. Bernard Nathanson died of cancer. He was a former abortionist who turned pro-life after the advent of the ultrasound machine. After he watched an unborn baby recoil from a vacuum abortion device before being sucked from its mother’s womb, he had to acknowledge the humanity of the unborn.   This is exactly why pro-aborts have fought so hard against crisis pregnancy centers having ultra sound machines — they reveal the reality that it is a baby in the womb.

Many false arguments were used to legalize the killing of babies in the womb. In a radio program in 2008 Dr. Nathanson explained, “We claimed that between five and ten thousand women a year died of illegal botched abortions. The actual figure was closer to 200 to 300.”

“We also claimed that there were a million illegal abortions a year in the United States,” he continued, “and the actual figure was close to 200,000. So, we were guilty of massive deception.”

In the same 2008 program Nathanson lamented that increasingly abortion was being used as a form of birth control: “One of the myths that was fed to the public through the media was that legalizing abortion would only mean that abortions taking place illegally, would be done legally. But in fact, abortion is now being used primarily as a method of birth control all over the world and in the USA too.”

What the mainstream media refuses to say:

  • A survey by researchers from the University of Western Ontario, the London (Ontario) Health Sciences Centre and the University of Colorado have again shown a link between abortion and domestic violence. The new research coincides with findings from the US and Britain that have consistently shown a strong correlation between violence and abortion and between the use of contraceptives and repeat abortion.
  • A study published in the Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention in February 2012 reported a very statistically significant increased risk of breast cancer for women with previous abortions as opposed to women who have never had one. The study, consisting of 1,351 women and led by researcher Ai-Ren Jiang, reported a statistically significant 1.52-fold elevation in risk for women with induced abortions and a “significant dose-response relationship between (the risk) for breast cancer and number of induced abortions,” meaning the risk climbed with a higher number of previous abortions.
  • In a letter published in the National Post in March 2005, Toronto psychiatrist Dr. Joseph Berger attests that, even “years after abortion,” a “profound sense of loss” and regret still remain for most women. “In more than 30 years of clinical practice as a psychiatrist, I have not come across an adult woman who, years after having had an abortion, has not had deep regrets, sadness and often a profound sense of loss, especially if she has not had any children,” said Dr. Joseph Berger.
  • From the UK: In a prepared statement, the Royal College of Psychiatrists recommended that “healthcare professionals who assess or refer women who are requesting an abortion” take steps to determine whether the woman might be at risk for possible mental health complications before they undergo the procedure.
  • A French study of 2,837 births – the first to investigate the link between terminations and extremely premature births – found that mothers who had previously had an abortion were 1.7 times more likely to give birth to a baby at less than 28 weeks’ gestation.

In 2015 the fight against abortion intensified as the Center for Medical Progress released its undercover videos exposing Planned Parenthood selling baby body parts. As Planned Parenthood employees callously talked about crunching babies’ bodies in order to get the “specimen” desired, changing abortion procedures in order to obtain intact bodies, charges per body part and picking through the remains of a baby as they look for the leg, Americans were outraged. There were calls for congressional investigations and statewide investigations in many states including Pennsylvania. Democrats immediately called such investigations a witch hunt, a war against women and a waste of tax dollars.   Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood in Pennsylvania, said the public does not want elected officials spending time and money on investigations into Planned Parenthood.

On July 28, 2015 Governor Tom Wolf called for “a review” of the Planned Parenthood facilities in PA.   Not surprising, less than a month later the PA Department of Health said it had found no evidence that PA Planned Parenthood facilities were involved in buying or selling fetal tissue – a euphemism for aborted babies’ hearts, brains, kidneys, livers, intact bodies, etc .  As we noted in a news release issued that day, ” this same department, along with the Department of State, repeatedly chose to do nothing despite being faced with evidence of wrongdoing at the Gosnell abortion clinic in Philadelphia.”

Could we really expect an honest review of Planned Parenthood in PA? In 2014 Planned Parenthood PAC endorsed Tom Wolf for PA Governor, donated $1 million, went door to door and make phone calls for his campaign.   In February 2015 Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood, noted Tom Wolf was “the first governor in the history of the country who was also a former Planned Parenthood clinic escort.”

When will the killing of future generations of Americans stop?
