AG Eric Holder Oversteps His Authority

(Harrisburg) —  Saturday’s announcement by US Attorney General Eric Holder regarding same-sex so-called marriage further illustrates the Obama Administration’s attack on natural marriage and the effort to redefine that institution in all 50 states.    The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide advocate for natural one man one woman marriage, is appalled that the executive branch of the federal government continues to try to impose its views on those states which define marriage the way it has been defined since the founding of this nation.

“Last year’s Supreme Court’s decision tossed Section 3 of the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which defined for federal purposes marriage as only between one man and one woman.  The Supreme Court kept intact Section 2, which allows Pennsylvania and the other 32 states that define marriage as only between one man and one woman, to continue doing so without interference from the federal government.  We kindly ask Mr. Holder and the DOJ to respect our laws,” commented Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA.

As Section 2 of DOMA permits, Pennsylvania has not legalized same-sex “marriage” and does not recognize those performed in other states.   Holder’s comments, given during a gala put on by the homosexual lobby group, Human Rights Campaign (HRC), equates his role to that of Robert Kennedy during the fight for civil rights.  The HRC is pushing hard for the expansion of benefits and they have a willing partner in the Obama Administration.

“Mr. Holder is confused.  African-Americans in the US faced real discrimination when Robert Kennedy was Attorney General.  They faced workplace discrimination, were prevented from voting and placed in segregated schools.  Those who identify as homosexual have never had to sit at the back of the bus or drink out of separate water fountains. Those basic rights were extended to African-Americans because of an immutable characteristic-their race – a long history of discrimination and politically powerlessness.  None of which pertain to the homosexual lobby today.  And, as the only state in the northeast that has maintained its sanity on this issue, we ask Mr. Holder to not push his agenda here,” Gramley continued.
