Grand Jury Recommends PA AG Kane Face Criminal Charges, Adds Fuel to Impeachment Efforts

(Harrisburg) — A statewide grand jury has found evidence that Attorney General Kathleen Kane violated grand-jury secrecy rules by leaking materials to target political enemies. They recommend charges including perjury and contempt of court. In addition the American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA) notes, Attorney General Kane has failed to perform duties given to her under the Commonwealth Attorneys Act through only defending laws she agrees with.

“A year and a half ago Kathleen Kane declared our Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional and she would not defend it. Declaring laws unconstitutional does not fall under her job description. She also refuses to defend Act 192 of 2014 which would prevent local municipalities from passing more restrictive gun control ordinances than existing state law. Apparently not a gun lover and even though her office does not legally have the power to do so, Kane changed our firearms reciprocity agreements with Florida, Virginia and Arizona. The grand jury findings further strengthen the call for her impeachment,” responded Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA.

During her campaign for the Attorney General’s office, Kane said, “The attorney general does not have the right to pick and choose which laws he or she enforces.” She said doing so injects politics into the job and, “That’s a dangerous proposition.” The AFA of PA fully agrees with her statement has a candidate, but her time in office has proven she has either changed her views or was not being truthful when making that statement back in 2012.

State Representative Daryl Metcalfe is currently circulating a co-sponsoring memo for a resolution calling for the impeachment of Attorney General Kathleen Kane. Many have begun questioning her ability to perform her duties as Attorney General, even Pennsylvania Democrat Congressman Bob Brady suggesting she’s “asleep at the switch.” The findings of the grand jury point to an Attorney General who seems to not be up to the job and should strengthen the impeachment effort.
