Hatboro Council Members Advised of Danger of Human Relations Ordinance

(Philadelphia) – Today the American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide traditional values group, contacted each of the members of the Borough of Hatboro Council.  The communication warned them of the dangers posed if they pass the proposed human relations ordinance with ‘sexual orientation and gender identity or gender expression’ language during the November 22nd meeting.

“This ordinance has nothing to with battling the bullying problem as one councilwoman asserted, but has everything to do with using the force of law to change the hearts and minds of those residents who believe homosexuality is wrong.  Believing that homosexuality is wrong is not bullying, discriminatory or bigoted as homosexual activists claim,” Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA said.

The AFA of PA included examples of men who think they are women who have demanded to use the women’s locker rooms at city pools and fitting rooms in department stores.  The additional information that the Lancaster County Commissioners had disbanded its human relations commission on Wednesday because of expense was also included.

The question was posed, “How much will such a commission cost your borough?  When Doylestown Borough passed its ordinance in August they did so not knowing what it would cost.  Stephen Glassman, chairman of the PA Human Relations Commission, suggested “the council might want to hire someone to help residents file complaints and investigate them. He said council could expect to pay $30,000 for a part-time employee and $60,000 for a full-time employee, plus benefits, mileage and office supplies.”  Can the Borough of Hatboro afford between $30,000 and $60,000?”

“Hatboro residents need only look south into Philadelphia to see the negative impact these ordinances have on the community.  The Boy Scouts have been under attack for years and continue to be.  A man who thinks he is a woman has demanded, and was permitted, to use the women’s fitting room in one Philadelphia Kmart.  These ordinances pose ramifications that the Borough Council needs to consider before they vote on Monday night,” Gramley pointed out.
