Haverford Township Poised to Rush Into Huge Mistake

(Philadelphia)  — Haverford Township (Delaware County) is rushing headlong into extending special rights to homosexuals, bisexuals and transgenders.  Such an ordinance was first suggested to the Board of Commissioners last month by a long-time homosexual resident of the township citing gossip he had endured 15-20 years ago and another name-calling incident from this past summer in which he called the police.  Today the American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide traditional values group, contacted each Commissioner and outlined the full ramifications of such ordinances.

“Most people do not fully understand the situations that are created by these homosexual special rights ordinances.  Special rights because they are written to give ‘rights’ based on the sexual activity in which an individual engages – they are based on changeable characteristics, not unchangeable ones like race and ethnicity,” Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA noted.

The communication with all nine commissioners included examples of incidences that have occurred in other areas where such ordinances have passed.  These included:

  • June 2007 – Portland, OR – male registered sex offender dressed as a woman enters women’s locker room at the Mount Scott Community Center
  • January 2008 – Gaithersburg, MD – man wearing a dress enters women’s locker room in the Rio Health Club
  • June 2008 – Philadelphia— Man demanded to use the women’s fitting room in Kmart; clerk hesitated and entire store had to go through diversity training to become more tolerant of ‘transgenders’
  • June 2008 – Cleveland, OH – man who believes he is a woman demands to use the women’s locker room at the city pool
  • 2003 – City of Philadelphia began eviction proceedings to throw the Cradle of Liberty Scout Council out of the headquarters they had built and maintained since 1929 on property the 1928 City Council gave them free use of in perpetuity. The reason?  The Scouts do not permit open homosexual leaders or members.
  • A bakery in Indianapolis, IN faces eviction from a city owned building because it refused to fill a call-in order from a homosexual organization.

“Our communication asked several pointed questions.  We asked where is the evidence that there is wide spread discrimination against homosexuals, bisexuals and transgenders in Haverford Township?  Can they not find a job?  Can they not rent or buy a home?  Are they not permitted in restaurants or stores?  A closer look at such proposals finds that they are simply disguised as a feel-good ordinance, but are used by homosexual activists to force others to accept their dangerous lifestyle as normal,” stated Gramley.
