PA “Pro-Life” Senate Confirms Man Who Turned Blind Eye to Gosnell’s House of Horrors

(Harrisburg) — Today the Pennsylvania Senate confirmed by a vote of 31 to 18 Pedro Cortes to be the commonwealth’s next Secretary of State.    Cortes had previously served in that same position for seven years under Governor Ed Rendell. However, his track record during that time should have caused all 50 senators to pause in voting to confirm Cortes. Apparently it made no difference that hundreds of babies and at least two women died because Cortes’ Department of State allowed abortion facilities to go unregulated and uninspected while ignoring multiple complaints against Gosnell’s House of Horrors. The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide group advocating for life from the moment of conception, stands in disbelief that such hard evidence, even that from a grand jury report,  was ignored during this confirmation process.

“So, the question is: does life matter in PA — particularly black lives — which were the majority of Gosnell’s victims. We’ve heard the cries across the nation that black lives matter, but apparently not in PA! The grand jury report specifically noted that the problem is that the state overseers – the Department of State– preferred not to exercise their authority, but simply to look the other way. The PA Senate has chosen to do the same thing,” Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA commented.

Most disturbing is that Senator David Argall, a member of the Pro-Life Caucus, voted to confirm Cortes. Argall joined other members of the caucus in signing an April 17th letter to Governor Wolf outlining their “serious concerns” about the nomination of Pedro Cortes and giving the facts connecting Cortes to Gosnell’s House of Horrors. His vote proves he should immediately be ousted from that caucus.
