Traditional Values Group Thanks Attorney General Corbett for Signing onto Marriage Amicus Brief

(Harrisburg)  Today the American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide traditional values group, faxed Attorney General Tom Corbett and thanked him for signing Pennsylvania onto the amicus brief filed last week in support of California’s Proposition 8.

“Pennsylvania has received like zero news coverage on its inclusion on this all important amicus brief and the Attorney General needs to be thanked by the citizens of Pennsylvania for stepping forward to defend marriage between one man and one woman.  In fact news stories the end of last week left off not only Pennsylvania, but also Alaska and Nebraska as well.  Each of these thirteen states’ attorneys general need to be thanked for this bold and politically incorrect step,” noted Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA.

The brief asserts that same-sex marriage is not a fundamental right; questions the legal grounds of the decision; and holds that individual states, not the federal court system, have final say in decisions about whether to allow same-sex marriages.   It also states that Judge Vaughn Walker’s definition of marriage as the state’s approval of a couple’s choice to live with, commit to and form a household and economic partnership with each other is a “staggeringly broad” definition that could open the door to polyamorous or even non-sexual marriages.

The AFA of PA fax encouraged Attorney General Corbett to continue his bold stand for traditional marriage and advocate for the passage of a marriage protection amendment here in Pennsylvania, especially if elected governor in November.

“Homosexual activists turn to the courts to legitimize their life style and so called ‘marriages’ through force of law.  The majority of Pennsylvanians and Americans know that marriage is between one man and one woman and maintaining that definition is what is best for children and society as a whole.  Thirty-one states have passed marriage protection amendments and Pennsylvania needs to join those ranks and pass a strong amendment to protect marriage here in the Commonwealth,” Gramley further stated.
