US Senators from PA Vote to Advance Discriminatory Bill Targeting Christians

(Harrisburg) —  This evening both US Senators from Pennsylvania voted ‘Yea”  on advancing S 815 the so-called Employment Non-Discrimination Act or ENDA which is designed to force businesses, including Christian-owned businesses, hospitals and universities,  to hire homosexuals and transgenders.  The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide traditional values group, is extremely disappointed that both PA Senators voted to discriminate against those with deeply held religious beliefs that homosexuality is wrong.

“Final passage of this bill would give special protections to homosexuals, bisexuals and transgenders, forcing even Christian employers to hire them or face a penalty.  It would also have a chilling effect upon the First Amendment rights of those who oppose same-sex marriage and other components of the homosexual agenda.   The goal of the bill is not to stop discrimination against homosexuals and transgenders in hiring, it is to use the force of law in demanding everyone celebrate the dangerous homosexual  and transgender lifestyles or face a penalty, commented Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA.

Examples of discrimination against those with deeply held religious beliefs and religious organizations include:

1.)  Fiction writer Orson Scott Card was removed from a DC Comic Superman anthology project because he’s a vocal supporter of one man one woman marriage.

2.)  Fox Sports announcer Craig James was fired after just one appearance because he answered during a 2011 interview that he believed homosexuality was a choice and those involved would have to answer to the Lord for their actions.

3.)  At Yeshiva University in New York City an English professor was granted tenure, less than two weeks later he announced his plan to become a woman.   The university reinstated “her” after the sex change operation.  One transgender activist said, ” Had Yeshiva University fired her and she was able to prove that this was because of her gender identity, referring to her transformation from male to female, she would have received damages – possibly punitive – for discrimination.”

4.)  A similar case occurred at Spring Arbor University, a Christian institution in Michigan. Transgender professor Julie Nemecek (formerly John Nemecek) was fired by the administration and responded by filing a sexual discrimination complaint. The parties agreed on a settlement out of court.

“As usual, what evidence was presented that those who identify as homosexual, bisexual or transgender have been discriminated against in hiring or have lost their job simply because of their sexuality?  This is simply a feel good bill that will be used to further the forced acceptance of sexual perversion and Pennsylvania’s two US Senators played a hand in it,” further noted Gramley.
