President Weighs in on Penn State, But Fails to Address Federal Hiring of Graham Spanier

(Harrisburg) — President Obama recently announced his support for the NCAA sanctions against Penn State, also stating that making sure kids are safe is more important than sports.   The American Family Association of Pennsylvania ( AFA of PA)  agrees with the President on the need to keep kids safe, but has contacted the President for a further explanation on the federal government’s hiring practices in light of the recent hiring of former Penn State President Graham Spanier, who was also implicated in the Freeh Report  for turning a blind eye to the accusations against former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky.

“Unfortunately, President Obama does not have a good track record when it comes to making decisions concerning children’s safety.  His choice of Kevin Jennings as the Assistant Deputy Secretary for the Office of Safe & Drug Free Schools or ‘safe schools czar’ immediately comes to mind.    Now it has been revealed that Graham Spanier will be working on a ‘top secret mission‘ for the federal government!” noted Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA.

On page 11 of the Freeh Report, it notes that the most important documents in the investigation were the emails between Spanier, Vice-President of Business and Finance Gary Schultz and Athletic Director Tim Curley.    Spanier was very much involved with maintaining the Penn State atmosphere that placed young boys in danger.

“If the President is really concerned with the safety of children, at a minimum, he will call for an investigation into the hiring of Graham Spanier,  or even better, call for his firing.  This hiring places national security projects into the hands of a man who willingly participated in efforts to ignore the sexual molestation of little boys.  Where does it place our national security if the Penn State atmosphere created by Graham Spanier is transferred to America’s national security?”  questioned Gramley.
