The AFA of PA Stands With David Barton and Wallbuilders

(Harrisburg) —  The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA) remains confident in the works of historian David Barton, who goes to the original letters, diaries and writings of many of our Founding Fathers to show their Christian beliefs and how those influenced them in the founding of America.  Barton’s most recent book, The Jefferson Lies, has been attacked since it was first released.

“David Barton has proven to be a reliable source of history that has not gone through the revisionist process.  Most history books refuse to acknowledge the Christian beliefs of our Founding Fathers, simply claiming they were deists,  and ignoring what they actually wrote.  I have many of Barton’s books, including The Jefferson Lies, and videos in my personal library and I’ve always been impressed by the extensive end notes and documentation provided in those works,” Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA commented.

What is  behind the recent attacks on David Barton’s book, The Jefferson Lies?  Thomas Jefferson is a hero to the Left and they view any attempt to paint him in  a different light than they have painted him as a direct attack on their shaky foundation.  But why would a Grove City College psychology professor be so interested in undermining Barton’s book?

Unfortunately, Throckmorton’s attacks on Barton’s book and his attempt to take Barton down is part of a trend we in the pro-family movement have seen in recent years.  Throckmorton’s relationship with homosexual activists has become increasingly cozy and they definitely do not like what David Barton has to say about our Founding Fathers’  views on sodomy.

The Wallbuilders’ website provides documentation about the Founding Fathers’ stand on homosexuality,   homosexuals in the military, the sodomy laws in colonial America  (It was so reprehensible to the Founders that they called it “The crime not to be named.”), and judicial decisions that, until recent decades, continued to be based on ‘the laws of Nature and Nature’s God.”

On March 10, 2011 the AFA of PA sent a letter of concern to Grove City College President Dr. Richard Jewell.  In the letter we note that Throckmorton has “consistently attacked pro-family leaders in his blog .  He has attacked them as they work to prevent the normalization of the homosexual lifestyle in American society.”  The letter also notes “the fact that homosexual websites are increasingly quoting Dr. Throckmorton as he attacks pro-family leaders.”

“It is appalling that Thomas Nelson Publishing would end its contract with Wallbuilders and cease both distribution and sales of  the New York best seller.  This was a targeted attack on a pro-family leader by those who want to revise our history and remake America into something our Founding Fathers would not recognize and Thomas Nelson Publishing gave in to the pressure,” Gramley concluded.
