Today the American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA) delivered over 2300 petitions from concerned Pennsylvanians to Governor Corbett’s Northwest Regional Office. The petitioners are asking Governor Corbett to appeal Judge John Jones’ May 20th decision which declared our Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional.
Late yesterday afternoon Representative Daryl Metcalfe sent out a Co-sponsorship Memoranda asking for co-sponsors to a resolution “Urging Governor Corbett to Defend State’s Rights.”
It’s been one week since Judge John E. Jones III declared our Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional , stating in footnote number 12 on page 37 of the decision that all efforts to define marriage as only between one man and one woman is discriminatory. It’s been six days — only one day after Jones’ decision — that Governor Tom Corbett announced he would not appeal the decision.
Pressure continues to be exerted on Governor Corbett to reverse his decision not to appeal Judge Jones’ decision to declare Pennsylvania’s Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional. If you haven’t taken time to read Jones’ ridiculous justifications for overturning our DOMA, check it out here.
Governor Corbett’s announcement today that he would not appeal Judge Jones’ outrageous decision on our Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) shows his lack of will power to defend something he says he supports. The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide advocate for natural marriage, is outraged that the Governor has chosen the easy road.
Today Judge John Jones ruled that PA’s Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), defining marriage as only between one man and one woman and forbidding the state to recognize same-sex “marriages” performed in other states, was unconstitutional.
Today Governor Tom Corbett signed long-awaited changes to Pennsylvania’s child abuse laws. These bills were passed in response to the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse case. The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA) is pleased that the Governor has now signed these into law, but is concerned that two other bills that have been introduced in the House and Senate will undermine aspects of these new laws.
Recently Governor Tom Corbett announced his support of HB/SB 300 which would add “sexual orientation and gender identity or expression” to the PA Human Relations Act. The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA) has emailed the Governor asking him to reconsider his support of these discriminatory bills.
Governor Tom Corbett has announced his support of HB/SB 300 – the bills that would add “sexual orientation, gender identity or expression” to the PA Human Relations Act. Governor Corbett apparently does not see the danger of passing such laws, nor the harm done to those with deeply held religious beliefs that homosexuality is wrong.
Last week Governor Tom Corbett gave another example of illegal marriage in Pennsylvania — that between a brother and sister. His facts are correct as are those included in the legal brief of the Counsel General filed in the Montgomery County Register of Wills’ case. However those comments were deemed “inappropriate” by Governor Corbett. The American Family Association of Pennsylvania’s (AFA of PA) advice to Governor Corbett: tell it like it is and don’t sway from the moral aspect of this issue.
