City of Bethlehem Petition
Do you live in the City of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania? If so, did you know that on September 3rd Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan delivered Inter-Departmental Correspondence to City Council President Robert Donchez proposing a change in the City's Codified Ordinances to add Chapter 145. This would be a human relations ordinance with 'actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity or expression' language and the creation of a human relations commission to enforce the ordinance, if it passes. The proposed ordinance deals with employment (any business with one or more employee), housing and public accommodation.
What does such an ordinance mean in real life? Just ask the employees of a Philadelphia K-Mart who had to go through 'sensitivity' training when one of their fellow employees hesitated to allow a man who thinks he is a woman to use the women's fitting room. Or the women who go to a local city pool in Cleveland, Ohio who legally have to share their locker room and shower facilities with another sexually confused individual. Ask the Cradle of Liberty Scout Council in Philadelphia which has been fighting eviction from their headquarters because of their ban on open homosexual leaders and members. Recently a bakery in Indianapolis, IN has come under attack because it refused to bake 'rainbow cookies' for a homosexual group's celebration of the upcoming 'National Coming Out Day. The business now faces potential eviction.
Does the City of Bethlehem need such an ordinance to create similar situations?
