Ask IUP Provost to Discipline Professor Not Student

Details

Last month Indiana University of Pennsylvania student Lake Ingle was attending his “Christianity 481: Self, Sin, and Salvation,” when his professor forced the class to watch a Ted-Talk featuring “transgender woman” Paula Stone.  The presentation gave examples of “mansplaining,” “male privilege,” and “systematic sexism.  After the video, Professor Alison Downie opened the floor to female students only.  After some time elapsed and no women in the class had spoken, Lake Ingle spoke up to respectfully counter the views of those expressed in the video.  Professor Downie tried to silence him because he was not a woman.  Click here to read more of the story.

Ingle has received a letter of reprimand from Provost Dr. Timothy Moerland stating that his office has received a request to remove him from the Christianity 481 class due to “behaviors that significantly disrupt the learning process in this class.”  He was asked to write an apology to the professor and to apologize to the class “for his behavior and then listen in silence as the professor and/or any student who wishes to speak shares how he or she felt during Lake’s disrespectful and disruptive outbursts on 2-28.”

Lake Ingle’s has not written an apology nor apologized to the class, he has instead sought legal counsel because of his lost First Amendment rights.

Action Steps

Contact Provost Timothy Moerland and ask him to stop bullying Lake Ingle and instead discipline Professor Downie for holding an indoctrination class rather than an academic class.    You can call his office here 724-357-2219 or send him a message via email here
