Ask the Smithsonian to Remove This Racist Statue!

Details

Since the riots in Charlottesville, VA a little over a week ago, the nation has seen more protests and destruction.   Many believe George Soros is funding most of these protests in order to destabilize the nation and derail President Trump’s agenda.

In Durham, NC a Confederate Monument was toppled by protestors.  You can watch the video here   We’ve now seen a statue of Abraham Lincoln torched in Chicago and in Baltimore what is believed to be the first US monument erected to memorialize Christopher Columbus has been vandalized.

These protests have been made to appear as an effort to protest racism, but one must wonder what the real goals are and just how much accurate history of the US these  protestors know!

A little history:  Yes,  in the United States slavery was legal.  Before the War for Independence several states tried to pass laws to make it illegal in their state.  King George would not allow it.  In fact slavery in the New World was established by British Kings and Parliaments.  It was opposed by the majority of Founding Fathers and the issue was vigorously debated in the Continental Congress.   Founding Fathers from North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia would not agree to a Constitution that outlawed slavery, so in order get the nation established, a compromise was reached and the Constitution was ratified.  But our Founding Fathers knew the issue must be addressed and many were members of abolitionist societies seeking to end slavery.   The issue was ultimately addressed about 90 years after the founding of our nation and with the loss of 620,000 American lives during the Civil War slavery was ended.

However, the Founding Fathers themselves took steps to limit slavery.  A law signed by President George Washington prohibited slavery in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin.   Revisionists claim that the Constitution demonstrates that the Founders considered one who was black to be only three-fifths of a person. This charge is yet another falsehood. The three-fifths clause in Article I, Section 2 was not a measurement of human worth; rather, it was an anti-slavery provision to limit the political power of slavery’s proponents. By including only three-fifths of the total number of slaves in the congressional calculations, Southern States were actually being denied additional pro-slavery representatives in Congress.

But now back to present day! Slavery in the US was ended at the end of the Civil War, but we must admit that racism does still exist in the US and groups like those in Charlottesville do not solve the problem of racism, but only exacerbate it.   The media is applauding the toppling of Confederate statues and the demonizing of the Founding Fathers and their supposed pro-slavery, racist views.   But what about the racist views of some heroes of the progressive movement — Margaret Sanger for instance?  The views of the founder of Planned Parenthood are readily swept under the rug and ignored.

On August 7, 2015 STAND (Staying True to America’s National Destiny) sent a letter to the director of the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian Institute asking that the bust of Margaret Sanger be removed.  It was part of the “Struggle for Justice” exhibit.  The letter was ignored and the bust still stands alongside Dr. Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks!  Click here to read the letter as it outlines Margaret Sanger’s racist views.
