Merit Selection of Judges – Why Are They Pushing This Through So Quickly

Details

Do you like pro-life judges to be on the bench in PA?  Do you like judges who can read the Constitution and interpret it the way it was intended?  Do you like judges who do not legislate from the bench?  Do you like having the ability to vote for judges? Well, there’s a good chance you will lose it all if
HB 111 becomes law!

HB 111 has been voted out of the State House Judiciary Committee by a vote of 13 to 12.  All Democrats and two Republicans (Barry Jozwiak and Jesse Topper) in the committee voted against it.

This bill is a constitutional amendment and would radically change the way judges are chosen in Pennsylvania.  No longer would voters have a say –  commissions unaccountable to the voters would be formed.  This would be formed by the governor and the legislators.  In Section 14 (4), the bill specifically tells those making appointments to the commission “When making appointments, appointing authorities may consider that the commission reflect the geographic, racial, ethnic, gender and other diversity of this Commonwealth.”   On the next page of the bill, it says the same thing about placing names in the pool of potential judicial nominees!  So . . . just where is that going to lead? What ‘diversity’ are they talking about??  Note that one of the co-sponsors is open homosexual Brian Sims.

Action Steps

It was voted out of the House Judiciary Committee last week and already it’s on the House Calendar for a floor vote.

Contact your State Representative and ask him or her to vote ‘no’ HB 111.  This bill is taking away our rights as voters.
