Issue

Defunding Obamacare

Details

Today the US House passed a bill to defund Obamacare, but would keep the government running through mid-December.  (Question:  Where in the Constitution does it allow for continuing resolutions??)  The vote was 230-189 mostly along party lines with one Republican voting ‘nay’ and two Democrats voting ‘aye.’  Also, 13 did not vote including Pennsylvania’s Chaka Fattah and Tim Murphy.

The resolution sets total funding for discretionary federal programs at $986.3 billion per year, the same level seen in fiscal 2013. That level would require a $19-billion cut next year to stay consistent with the sequester’s requirements for 2014.  The Senate says it’s DOA in that chamber.
