AFA of PA Action Alert

June 16, 2010

Issues  (check corresponding number in ‘Details’ and ‘Action’ Sections)

1.)    White House Invites Transgenders to ‘Pride in the White House’

2.)    Pray for the Cradle of Liberty Scout Council

3.)    As the Oil Spill Continues

Details

1.)  On June 22 the President will be holding a reception at the White House in honor of ‘Gay Pride Month’.  He has invited at least two transgender activists to the event.    Have you read President Obama’s ‘Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Proclamation” yet?  Click here

2.)  Since 2002 the City of Philadelphia has attempted to evict the Cradle of Liberty Scout Council from the headquarters the Scouts built and have maintained since 1929.  This was built on a half acre piece of property the 1928 Philadelphia City Council gave them free use of in perpetuity (forever). The Scouts’ policy bans open homosexual leaders and members and the city’s action is in direct response to the ‘sexual orientation’ language in Philadelphia’s Fair Practices Ordinance.  Jury selection for the trial began on Monday with opening statements yesterday.  The purpose of the trial is to determine whether the Scouts will be forced to pay $200,000 annual rent or face eviction.  Click here for more details. Additionally, last week’s Philadelphia Gay News quotes Stephen Glassman, the openly homosexual chairman of the PA Human Relations Commission, “I just hope a jury will understand that the city cannot facilitate discrimination in any form. It certainly cannot provide a rent-free headquarters building to any organization that blatantly discriminates against a protected class.”  (Note:  homosexuals are not a protected class!) In a February 4, 2004 Scranton Times,  Glassman agreed with the AFA of PA’s assertion that adding ‘sexual orientation’ to ordinances would directly affect the Boy Scouts.

3.)  To many the President used his speech last night to push for passage of the climate change bill (cap and trade) which sits in the US Senate rather than address the immediate threat of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.  But did you know that BP was a supporter of cap and trade?  Click here for a list of other corporations which support passage of this far-reaching, reckless bill.

Action Steps

1.)  Let the President know your thoughts on the disgraceful June 22nd White House reception.  Click here for the contact form or call 202-456-1111.

2.) Glassman is working to get municipalities to add ‘sexual orientation and gender identity’ to human relations ordinances (most recently he was instrumental in getting Allegheny County to add that language), as well as actively working for the passage of H.B. 300, the statewide effort to add ‘sexual orientation and gender identity or expression’ to the PA Human Relations Act.  Closely monitor your municipality (attend the public meetings, if possible) and be on the watch for these efforts in your area.  Stephen Glassman was appointed to this position on the PA Human Relations Commission by Governor Rendell.  Contact the Governor and let him know your thoughts on his choice for chairman.

3.) Contact Senators Arlen Specter and Bob Casey, Jr. and ask them to oppose any type cap and trade, energy tax or renewable energy standards bill.  Click here for contact info.
