Thank the Two Allegheny County Council Members Who Voted to Protect Children

Details

As you may have heard on Tuesday evening the Allegheny County Council voted to ban talk therapy for minors with unwanted same-sex attraction or gender confusion.  The vote was 13-2 with Sam DeMarco and Cindy Kirk being the lone ‘no’ votes.   Tom Baker (R-Ross) joined the 12 Democrats in voting ‘yes.’

This bill is different from the one introduced last year.  Councilman Paul Klein introduced this bill and it changes the definition of “mental health provider” to that found in the City of Pittsburgh’s ordinance and only applies to licensed and registered therapists.  Last year’s bill would have also applied to unlicensed therapists, pastors and mentors.  Even though this bill is not as bad as last year’s, it still is not a good bill.  It will leave many minors with unwanted thoughts and feelings trapped with those thoughts and feelings.    And . . . all it will take is the addition of an amendment to change the definition to include pastors!

DeMarco and Kirk were called all sorts of names during the meeting and they need to know their efforts to protect children were appreciated.
