Finally Action is Taken on Lawlessness in Pennsylvania

(Harrisburg) —   The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), fully supports Representative Daryl Metcalfe’s call for the impeachment of Montgomery County Register of Wills Bruce Hanes and Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane.  First the dereliction of duty and now lawlessness has reigned in the Commonwealth for more than two weeks.

“Mr. Hanes is knowingly disobeying the Defense of Marriage Act which passed overwhelmingly by the General Assembly in 1996.  The homosexuals applying for and receiving marriage licenses know their actions will not be legally recognized in Pennsylvania or anywhere else.   Governor Corbett needs to address this beyond simply acknowledging illegal activity is going on in Montgomery County.  In light of the Governor’s lack of action, we are grateful that Representative Metcalfe has stepped forward to call to task those who are willfully disobeying and not defending the law they are called to uphold,” Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA remarked upon hearing of Metcalfe’s actions.

In 1996 Pennsylvania’s Defense of Marriage Act received a 177-16 vote in the House and a 43-5 vote in the Senate.  Representative Metcalfe has also introduced a bill to amendment the Pennsylvania Constitution to further protect marriage.  HB 1349 was introduced on May 6th with strong language:  “Marriage is the legal union of only one man and one woman as husband and wife and no other legal union that is treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent thereof shall be valid or recognized.”

“Rather than address this lawlessness in Pennsylvania, Governor Corbett will be in Bedford holding a re-election strategy session with top donors.  He needs to take care of this emergency situation before he leaves Harrisburg.  As to Mr. Hanes, our Constitution which he is using to justify his illegal activity also says in the Preamble we humbly invoke God’s guidance.  His guidance on the marriage issue is outlined in Genesis 2 and repeated by Jesus in Matthew 19,” further commented Gramley.
