Lower Merion Township Votes to Give Special Protections to Homosexuals

(Philadelphia) – Tonight by a vote of 11-0 Lower Merion Township turned a deaf ear to ignore the warnings and the concerns voiced by constituents and chose instead to give special protections to homosexuals, bisexuals and transgenders.  Again, this afternoon the American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide family values group, contacted each commissioner and gave them additional information concerning the ramification of such passage.

“Those pushing this agenda say there are no adverse affects where these ordinances have passed.  Yet, we can give them example after example which they chose to ignore.  Others are also saying there will be a positive economic impact in the passage of this ordinance and we are asking, ‘Where is the proof?’  They can give us none, “noted Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA.

Apparently, the sole purpose of the ordinance is to give special protections to only homosexuals, bisexuals and transgenders.  Commissioner Rosenzweig, one of the authors of the ordinance, noted during the meeting those were the only categories they intended to enforce.  His declaration is an acknowledgment that even though they have changed the words of the now new ordinance, they simply plan on adhering to the language of the proposed September 10, 2010 ordinance which was to extend protection “based on sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression,” something they were warned against on October 7.

The ones who will be the most greatly impacted will be the women who no longer can safely enter the women’s restroom or the locker room at the local Y because the Lower Merion Commissioners just legalized the presence of men in those facilities.   It will also impact day cares which will be forced to hire homosexuals, bisexuals and transgenders and religious organizations which receive government monies for their soup kitchens and schools.   It will force department stores to allow men who think they are men to use the women’s fitting room.  Do the Boy Scout troops in the Constellation District, which encompasses Lower Merion use any of the township facilities or parks?  If so, they will be prohibited from doing so because they ban open homosexual leaders and members.

“The eleven Commissioners of Lower Merion Township voted tonight to fix a problem that does not exist.  Instead, in their efforts to be politically correct, they have created numerous problems by giving special protections to a very vocal minority of people who want to force all residents in Lower Merion to celebrate their lifestyle.  They want to use the force of law, and the commissioners have blatantly given them that ability, to redefine normal in Lower Merion and if someone holds deeply religious beliefs that homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism are sinful, those views will change or else,”  Gramley further commented.
