Right Decision Made: Retired Mennonite Pastor Loses Credentials

(Harrisburg) —  A retired Mennonite pastor and missionary has lost his credentials because of his willingness to “marry” his son who identifies as homosexual and his male partner.   In an email the American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide advocate for natural marriage, commended the Lancaster Mennonite Conference for its unwavering decision to stand by the real definition of marriage.

“The Lancaster Mennonite Conference found itself in the middle of a question too many churches in the US are being forced to address with the June 21st participation of retired Pastor Chester Wenger in the so-called wedding of his son and his male partner. The conference, unlike some denominations, did not waver on its teachings, which are based on Scripture, and made the correct decision in terminating the credentials of retired missionary, leader and pastor Chester Wenger. God is clear that marriage is only to be between one man and one woman and His Word also makes it clear that engaging in homosexual acts is sinful,” Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA notes.

The AFA of PA’s email to L. Keith Weaver says in part:

“I would like to say “thank you ” to the Lancaster Mennonite Conference for making the right decision in the situation presented by the participation of retired pastor Chester Wenger in the “marriage” of his son and his male partner.   Standing strong on what the Bible says, especially on the issues of marriage and the homosexual lifestyle, is becoming more difficult in today’s politically correct world.

As you know, just last month here in PA the highest court in the United Methodist Church reinstated Frank Schaeffer who had been defrocked for officiating at his son’s same-sex ‘wedding.’ Too many churches are being influenced by the world and are losing their saltiness to the point they cannot be distinguished from the world.   The decision by the Lancaster Mennonite Conference is like a breath of fresh air!”

“There are too many confused individuals in positions of leadership leading congregations down the wrong path on the issue of homosexuality. The average American sitting in the pew understands what marriage is and as their denominations have embraced homosexuality and so-called “gay marriage” those average Americans have left behind the liberal denominations. The Episcopal Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, United Church of Christ, and Presbyterian Church USA have all seen rapid decline in membership as they have grown more unbiblical on the issue of homosexuality.  The churches in American must decide whom they will serve — God or man. The Lancaster Mennonite Conference made the right decision, will others follow,” questioned Gramley.
