Group Asks Congressmen to Defend the Military

(Harrisburg) – The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide traditional values group, has contacted Congressmen Bill Shuster and Mark Critz and asked them, as members of the House Armed Services Committee, to attend today’s Military Personnel Subcommittee hearing on the implementation of the LGBT Law for the Military.

“The homosexualization of the military is on fast forward without regard to the ramifications to our service personnel or our national security.  Congressmen Shuster and Critz both voted against repeal of the law banning homosexuals in the military.  As members of the House Armed Services Committee, they need to attend this morning’s meeting and see that tough questions are asked of Dr. Clifford Stanley, Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel & Readiness, and Vice Admiral William Gortney, Director of the Joint Staff,” noted Diane Gramley, President of the AFA of PA.

The letter said in part:

Congress is considering many important issues, but none are more important than the future of our military and its culture, which is being threatened by rushed implementation of the radical LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered) law and associated policies for our military.

Here are a few questions that must be addressed:

How will the consequences of this social experiment be evaluated—not just in terms of “diversity,” but in terms of military necessity?

Given the wide array of complex, unresolved issues and questions surrounding repeal of the1993 law, plus negative official survey results and 2010 Senate testimony calling for  “mitigation” of avoidable problems with no benefits in return, how can designated officials honestly “certify” that repeal of the law will not undermine “military effectiveness, unit cohesion, recruiting and readiness” in the  All-Volunteer Force?

How will this unprecedented social experiment benefit or improve our military?

“The President, Secretary of Defense Gates and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Admiral Mullen are ignoring what is best for our nation’s military.  Allowing the LGBT Law for the Military to be implemented will destroy unit cohesion and military readiness.  Over 60 percent of combat troops said there will be a negative impact on the ability to do their job if homosexuals are permitted to serve openly; more than 12 percent of military families said they would not re-enlist if homosexual “couples” were in base housing and their children were exposed to pro-homosexual indoctrination in base schools.  Whether the United States survives as a world power is on the line,” Gramley further remarked.
