Congressmen Thanked for Signing Onto Anti-Obscenity Letter to Attorney General Holder

(Harrisburg) – Today the American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a member of the War on Illegal Pornography a coalition of over 70 national and state organizations, commended Congressmen Mark Critz, Mike Kelly and Joe Pitts for taking a stand for not only Pennsylvania families, but all families in America.  They were three of over 100 members of the US House and Senate who signed onto a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder asking that he vigorously enforce the federal obscenity laws.

All nineteen members of the Pennsylvania delegation to Washington and both Senators Pat Toomey and Bob Casey, Jr. were contacted numerous times by their constituents and asked to sign onto the letter.  The AFA of PA sent faxes and made phone calls urging our US Senators and US Representatives to sign the letter to Attorney General Holder sending a clear message on the need to enforce the law.

“Congressmen Mark Critz, Mike Kelly and Joe Pitts have shown real leadership in signing the House letter They recognize the tragedy had has occurred in our nation because of the lack enforcement of the nation’s obscenity laws beginning with the Clinton Administration continuing through the Bush Administration and now with the Obama Administration.  Obscenity is bombarding us on every level and is desensitizing us to its harm.  Increased sexual assaults of both women and children and the rampant problem of human trafficking are all by-products of illegal adult pornography,” observed Diane Gramley, President of the AFA of PA.

The letter also noted the next version of the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual will include a disorder that encompasses pornography addiction.  It also brought to Attorney General Holder’s attention the briefing in the Capitol last June which outlined how pornography has changed, becoming more harmful, addictive and available and linked to other crimes.  Holder was also urged to study the evidence at the War on Illegal Pornography’s website.

“This was the first concerted effort in fifteen years to get the US Attorney General back into the business of protecting Americans from illegal obscenity.  This material is not protected by the First Amendment; it is illegal.  Over 100 US Senators and Congressmen recognize this.  Our biggest disappointment was that only three of the twenty-one sent to Washington to represent Pennsylvanians appear to recognize that,” Gramley noted.
