Bangor Area School District Needs to Do the Right Thing!

Details

At tonight’s school board meeting there will be further discussion on the formation of a Gay Straight Alliance — now renamed Safe Schools Club.  The idea of a Safes Schools Club promoting homosexuality is ludicrous and the CDC attests to the physical dangers associated with engaging in homosexual sex.

The Equal Access Act, which was passed to allow Child Evangelism Fellowship to have Bible Clubs in schools, is worded so that schools which receive federal dollars must allow all clubs, if they allow even one non-curricular club.  Thus in recent years, with the help of the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN) and the ACLU, school directors who have realized the danger of such clubs have been forced to allow them anyway.  BUT there are precautionary steps that can be taken to protect students and at least two Bangor Area school directors get it!

Action Steps

1.)  If you live in the Bangor Area School District, please try to attend tonight’s meeting at  7:30 p.m. in the Slater Conference Room in the Administration Office, 123 Five Points Richmond Road in Bangor.  The vote to approve the club is scheduled for tonight.  Ask school directors to include the change that all school clubs must require signed parental permission forms before a student can participate in any club.  (The AFA of PA has provided school directors with a sample policy.)  Last month the Easton Area school district approved a Gay Straight Alliance with no such protection in place and the September 22nd Morning Call notes Julia Miles, the faculty advisor, says that while now primarily a social organization where students can share experiences, they hope to move further into activism.

2.)  If you pay taxes (you don’t have to be a parent) in the Bangor Area School District, please contact the school directors and ask them to protect parental rights and the well-being of students by requiring signed parental permission slips before students can participate in any club.  Signed parental permission slips for ALL clubs will ultimately protect students and create a more ordered and disciplined school environment thus a better place in which to learn.  Click here for contact info.   Additionally, the school district number is 610. 588-2163.
