Three PA Congressmen Declare War on Baby Girls

(Harrisburg) —       Yesterday the US House failed to get a 2/3 vote majority in order to ban abortions due to the baby being “the wrong sex.”  HR 3541 would have made it a federal offense to knowingly perform a sex-selection abortion or coerce a woman into such a procedure, or to transport a woman across state lines or into the United States to obtain a sex-selection abortion.   The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA) is deeply troubled by the failed attempt to obtain the required 2/3 vote to pass HR 3541, but is especially troubled to know that three of the PA delegation voted against the bill.

“Actually, we’ve come to expect such votes from Philadelphia Democrats and it again proved the case yesterday.  Philly Democrats Robert Brady, Chaka Fattah and Allyson Schwartz did not fail to show they are liberal through and through, even to the point of supporting genocide,” noted Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA.

Three Democrats — Jason Altmire, Mark Critz and Tim Holden — did cross the aisle and voted for the measure.  Mike Doyle did not vote, so we are still unsure how he would officially come down on the issue of eradicating girl babies.

On Wednesday President Obama, ignoring a poll that said 77% of Americans opposed sex selection abortion, voiced opposition to HR 3541 saying it would “subject doctors to criminal prosecution if they fail to determine” a sex-selection motivation.

House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer said, “I think this has come up because someone has decided politically that it was a difficult place to put people in.”  The lawmaker said he is against abortion based on the baby’s gender but that “a woman and her doctor gotta have the choice of what alternatives she wants to choose.”

“One comforting thought is that the bill was supported by a majority of House members, simply failing at the 2/3 vote threshold.  But even a quick glance at the results raises questions about the 168 who voted against the bill. Our Declaration of Independence lists three inalienable God-given rights — Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.  If one cannot support the first – life – then they will not support the remaining two,” Gramley concluded.
