Thank These Chambersburg Area School Board Members

Details

The end of February the Chambersburg Area School District (CASD) board made the right decision and voted down a Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) club – the vote was 5-4.   Since that time they have been under attack from the ACLU and the homosexual group Equality PA.  In addition a petition has been started on George Soros-funded change.org by a 2010 graduate of CASD and it has garnered 6,000 signatures from around the country demanding that the board allow the GSA.

The ACLU is of course using the Equal Access Act to demand the school permit the homosexual club -threatening legal action.  CASD superintendent Dr. Joseph Padasak  has endorsed the GSA.  Many forget what the last section of the Equal Access Act actually says:  “Nothing in this subchapter shall be construed to limit the authority of the school, its agents or employees, to maintain order and discipline on school premises, to protect the well-being of students and faculty, and to assure that attendance of students at meetings is voluntary.”   Validating a dangerous lifestyle such as homosexuality does not protect the well-being of students.

At the request of the AFA of PA, Liberty Counsel has contacted the district.  They have offered the district three options.  However, at this time, the best option appears to be to change the board policy concerning clubs, requiring a signed parental permission form for any student to participate in any school club — no exceptions.  Liberty Counsel has provided them with a sample policy.

Action Steps

Go to our Action Center to contact the five board members who voted ‘No’ on the GSA last month.  Ask them to accept Liberty Counsel’s offer of assistance.
