Illegal immigration is a major problem in the US. The United States is a nation of immigrants, but we have laws in place to regulate and set limits on immigration. Those laws have been ignored for decades and the problems have only gotten worse. The US House is set to vote on the recently introduced Border Security and Immigration Reform Act of 2018 (HR 6136) later this week. This is a compromise bill supported by House Speaker Paul Ryan and does not address many issues that would end the illegal immigration problems!
$1.1 trillion bill does nothing to rein in out of control spending. It increases national security risks by not stemming the flow of Syrian refugee, by not strengthening the screening of refugees, by not punishing sanctuary cities. It hurts American workers by allowing over a quarter million foreign workers into the country. On and on the list goes that outlines how this undermines America!
Democrats in the US Senate continue filibustering the House-passed bill that would fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), but not fund President Obama’s executive amnesty. Funding for DHS runs out next Friday, February 27th. On Monday a federal judge in Texas, Andrew Hanen, issued a 123-page ruling that stopped Obama’s executive amnesty.
The US government runs out of money at midnight tonight. The Republicans are being warned not to shut the government down, even though it is President Obama who said he’d shut it down if the Republicans didn’t allow him to extend amnesty to five million illegal aliens!
On November 4th the voters sent a message to Republicans that they expect them to take action and rein in the President’s executive orders. Did they get the message? President Obama’s executive action on immigration would allow five million who are in the country illegally to remain without fear of deportation. The Republicans appear hesitant to defund that effort, let your Congressman know what you think!
Senator Jeff Sessions, a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has urged all Americans to contact their Congressmen and Senators asking them to oppose any effort by President Obama to issue a grant of ‘work authorization for perhaps several million undocumented immigrants.’ Permitting those illegally present in the U.S. to work and take jobs is contrary to plain law. What will that do to American jobs? The president is turning a blind eye to the needs of American citizens and their families all in the name of his political agenda.
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) has thrown his support behind Rep. Jeff Denham’s (R-CA) attempt to add his “Encourage New Legalized Immigrants to Start Training” or ENLIST Act (H.R. 2377), a military-based DREAM Act, to the must pass National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This bill would let some young illegal immigrants join the military and be granted legal permanent residence, labeled as a green card, which is a key step on the pathway to citizenship.
Senator Harry Reid intends to bring the Defense Authorization Act for a vote tomorrow afternoon. Amendments to the bill would lift the ban on open homosexuals in the military, allow abortions on all military bases and extend amnesty to some illegal aliens.
