Yesterday the House and Senate passed the second largest spending bill in US history and today President Trump signed it, after indicating he may veto it. He said he was forced to sign it in order to rebuild the military, but warned Congress that he would never sign such a bill again. Only five US House members from PA voted against it and Senator Casey voted ‘yea,’ while Senator Toomey did not vote.
Well, the State House is at it again trying to pass a Senate Budget version which will increase spending and require higher sales and income taxes!! The House has revived the Senate’s $30.8 billion budget that everyone thought was dead! Is Harrisburg taking its cues from Washington, DC?
Just in time for Christmas! Will the state legislature give us a gift of tax increases this year? The State Senate has already voted to do just that and now the State House will be voting on whether they want to give us the same Christmas “gift.”

Late this afternoon the US House passed the boondoggle budget agreement crafted in secret between leadership and the White House. The vote was 266 yeas to 167 nays. All Democrats voted for the bill. Only 79 Republicans voted for it, including PA’s Ryan Costello, Charlie Dent, Mike Fitzpatrick, Ted Meehan, Bill Shuster and Glenn Thompson.
The vote was taken after six hours of debate in the State House. It went down in flames by a 127-73 vote. The governor said he is not removing any tax options from the negotiating table.
Media coverage seems to indicate Governor Wolf and the Republican Majority are getting closer to a budget deal. However, will that deal include funding for Planned Parenthood? In light of the videos released by the Center for Medical Progress, the Governor has called for an investigation into Planned Parenthood.
The Senate and House have mostly gone home for the summer, except they are on notice that they will be expected back in Harrisburg if an agreement is reached on the budget. Additionally, word has gotten out that Governor Tom Wolf is pushing to have the language of SB 300 included in budget negotiations!!
