Theresa Santai-Gaffney , Schuylkill County Register of Wills, has not given up her efforts to challenge the decision of Judge John E. Jones III to legalize same-sex “marriage” in Pennsylvania. The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide advocate for natural marriage, applauds and fully supports her efforts.
Inaction on the part of Governor Corbett and the majority of legislators to counter the unconstitutional actions of an unelected judge resulted in the legalization of same-sex marriage in Pennsylvania last week. News account saying Pennsylvania legalized same-sex marriage are an exaggeration of what actually happened — Judge John E. Jones III legalized same-sex “marriage,” not Pennsylvanians or their elected representatives. On May 20th, PA’s primary election day, an unelected judge flexed his unrestrained muscle and struck down our constitutionally passed Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
Today the American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA) delivered over 2300 petitions from concerned Pennsylvanians to Governor Corbett’s Northwest Regional Office. The petitioners are asking Governor Corbett to appeal Judge John Jones’ May 20th decision which declared our Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional.
Senator John Eichelberger has also introduced a resolution to reclaim states’ rights, similar to State Representative Daryl Metcalfe’s. Time is of the essence as the deadline to appeal Judge Jones’ decision declaring our Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional is one week from today!
Increasingly voters see unelected judges tossing or rewriting laws which have been passed by their elected legislators — clearly unconstitutional actions. State Representative Daryl Metcalfe and State Senator John Eichelberger have introduced resolutions fighting for states’ rights in their respective chambers. The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide organization advocating for the natural family, applauds their efforts to reclaim what has been stolen from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Late yesterday afternoon Representative Daryl Metcalfe sent out a Co-sponsorship Memoranda asking for co-sponsors to a resolution “Urging Governor Corbett to Defend State’s Rights.”
n the footnote on page 30 of Judge John Jones’ decision last week in which he declared PA’s Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional, he claims that any and all efforts to defend natural marriage by way of a constitutional amendment are discriminatory. Since 2006 there have been several attempts to place a Marriage Protection Amendment (MPA) before the people for a vote.
It’s been one week since Judge John E. Jones III declared our Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional , stating in footnote number 12 on page 37 of the decision that all efforts to define marriage as only between one man and one woman is discriminatory. It’s been six days — only one day after Jones’ decision — that Governor Tom Corbett announced he would not appeal the decision.
Pressure continues to be exerted on Governor Corbett to reverse his decision not to appeal Judge Jones’ decision to declare Pennsylvania’s Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional. If you haven’t taken time to read Jones’ ridiculous justifications for overturning our DOMA, check it out here.
Governor Corbett’s announcement today that he would not appeal Judge Jones’ outrageous decision on our Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) shows his lack of will power to defend something he says he supports. The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide advocate for natural marriage, is outraged that the Governor has chosen the easy road.
