President Trump needs a strong Secretary of State who will support his agenda internationally. The President has nominated CIA Director Mike Pompeo to replace Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State. As CIA Director, Pompeo has recently met with leadership in North Korea and made progress in ending their nuclear program. However, he has not yet been confirmed as Secretary of State and there has been stiff opposition from Democrats because of his conservative views. Ask Senators Casey and Toomey to vote to confirm Mike Pompeo.
Today the Pennsylvania Senate confirmed by a vote of 31 to 18 Pedro Cortes to be the commonwealth’s next Secretary of State. Cortes had previously served in that same position for seven years under Governor Ed Rendell. However, his track record during that time should have caused all 50 senators to pause in voting to confirm Cortes.
During Pedro Cortes’ tenure as Secretary of State there was a policy against regular inspections of abortion centers – and dozens of abortion-related complaints went unanswered, and a blind eye was turned to every report of violations at abortion centers. Now Tom Wolf wants to give him his old job back!
Today the Senate State Government Committee will hold a hearing on Governor Tom Wolf’s nomination of Pedro Cortes as the Commonwealth’s next Secretary of State. Some of the responsibilities of the Secretary of State is to oversee individual physicians, inspect abortion facilities and enforce safety regulations in PA.
On Monday the AFA of PA delivered letters to each of the 50 State Senators’ offices at the Capitol in Harrisburg. The letters urged them not to confirm Pedro Cortes and Dr. “Rachel” Levine to be Pennsylvania’s next Secretary of State and Physician General, respectively.
Confirmation hearings will be held today for several of Tom Wolf’s nominees — including Pedro Cortes for Secretary of State (remember Kermit Gosnell) and sexually confused Dr. “Rachel” Levine for Physician General.
A few days ago, Governor-elect Tom Wolf announced he wants Pedro Cortes to be his Secretary of State. One of the responsibilities of the Secretary of State is to oversee individual physicians, inspect abortion facilities and enforce safety regulations in PA. A grand jury investigation in January 2011 found that the Secretary of State had repeatedly ignored evidence and closed investigations even in the midst of escalating complaints about Gosnell’s abortion clinic.
