The confirmation of Chai Feldblum for a third term on the EEOC is dead! Senator Mike Lee of Utah objected to the Senate approving Feldblum by unanimous consent. Needless to say homosexual activists are not happy and have begun their attacks on him. Tell him ‘Thank you’ for stopping this confirmation!
The purpose of the First Amendment Defense Act was to guarantee federal bureaucrats will never have the authority to require those who believe in the traditional definition of marriage to choose between their living in accordance with those beliefs and maintaining their occupation, their tax status, or their eligibility to receive grants, licenses or contracts.
In light of the comments from Solicitor General Donald Verrilli during oral arguments in the Obergefell case, it became quite clear that the Obama Administration would be okay with the IRS revoking the tax-exempt status of religious institutions (including schools) that believe marriage should be only between a man and a woman. The need for a First Amendment Defense Act is great.
This morning Reid offered the Senators a “tempting carrot to cooperate and waive procedural hurdles so that they can close the session and leave for the holidays.” So . . . the majority of Senators are mad because they had to work on Saturday and now Reid is telling them just co-operate with me and you can go home tomorrow! Somehow I can’t envision many of these “suffering” Senators sitting in the Philadelphia heat in their woolen suits as they debate independence from Great Britain in 1776. Just can’t picture that
Only Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) consistently stood boldly throughout the drama that took place in the Senate today. They demanded, and got, a vote to defund Obama’s executive action on amnesty. They forced the vote and all Americans now know where their sitting Senators stand on the issue!
As you’ve probably heard the US House passed the “CRomnibus” bill around 9:30 p.m. Thursday evening. Sixty-seven Republicans voted against it and 57 Democrats voted for it. Unfortunately PA Congressman Scott Perry was the only Republican from the PA delegation that voted ‘nay.’
On Friday the House did it — they voted to defund Obamacare and fund the government through mid-December. The bill is now in the US Senate where Harry Reid says it’s DOA. However, Republican Senators Mike Lee and Ted Cruz are doing everything they can to stop the defunding portion of the House-passed bill from being stripped in the Senate. Senator Cruz is even talking of a filibuster. For their willingness to fight to defund Obamacare, they are being attacked by the Senate GOP leadership!
