With the announced renewal of yet another season of 13 Reasons Why, Netflix continues showing it has no concern for teen suicide. This show has been directly linked to teen suicides, yet Netflix turns a blind eye. Diane Gramley, president of the American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA) recently issued the following statement, just prior to the announcement of a third season of 13 Reasons Why, concerning Netflix’ irresponsible actions:
NetFlix original series “13 Reasons Why” has been linked to teen suicide, but they are putting profit ahead of concerns over this link and will be releasing the second series today! Let NetFlix know your thoughts on their decision to make this show available.
Philadelphia-based Equality Forum’s news release published in the Miami Herald yesterday misses the point and is using the recent suicide of a 14-year old Snyder County student to push for bills that would force every public school student in America to confirm and celebrate the homosexual lifestyle.
Would widespread community embrace of homosexuality and gender-switching prevent some of these suicides? Or is misinformation actually a contributor to the despair embedded in these tragedies?
