Help Fight H.B. 1400 and S.B. 761
What will happen if either of these bills become law?

Currently H.B. 1400 has been tabled in the House State Government Committee.  It's chances for progress diminish with each passing day, but already Chairman Babette Josephs says another such bill will be introduced during next session.  She and other supporters of special rights for homosexuals and sexually confused individuals will continue their relentless efforts.

Our efforts will also.  We will continue gathering names on the letter and deliver the letters as planned.  So, if you haven't signed the petition yet, please do so.

H.B. 1400 and S.B. 761 are identical bills – one in the State House and one in the State Senate.   Each would add 'sexual orientation and gender identity or expression' to the PA Human Relations Act.   For more information and real life scenarios read the remainder of this page.

Here's what you can do:

  • Please read the letter asking your elected officials to oppose these bills.

  • Then sign the letter to your State Representative and State Senator.  (BUT before signing the letter, find out what your nine-digit zip code is by going to the USPS website by clicking here.)  The AFA of PA will mail a copy of the letter to your State Senator and State Representative.

  • Please consider gathering more names for the letters. You can do this by printing the letter to your elected officials and then print the petition to gather signatures.  Please return to the AFA of PA by October 15, 2008.

These bills will:

q    Add ‘sexual orientation and gender identity or expression’ to the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act which deals with employment, housing and public accommodation

q    Define ‘sexual orientation’ as “actual or perceived heterosexuality, homosexuality, and bisexuality” – there are 27 other known ‘sexual orientations,’ which one will be added next?

q    Declare that homosexuality and bisexuality are a ‘civil right’

q    Define "employer" with respect to “discriminatory practices based on race, color, age, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression or non-job related handicap or disability, includes religious, fraternal, charitable and sectarian corporations and associations employing four or more persons within the Commonwealth.” (this language is from the bills, emphasis added)

Additionally:

1.)  Men who think they are women must be allowed to use the women's restroom, shower and locker  room facilities, fitting rooms in your local department store.

2.)  Businesses with four or more employees (including churches and Christian schools which receive any government money) would be required to hire homosexuals, bisexuals and transgenders.  Additionally, these businesses must permit sexually confused individuals to use the restroom or workplace shower and locker room facilities of their choice.

3.)  Christian landlords must lease to homosexuals, bisexuals and transgenders.

4.)  Because of their ban on homosexual leaders and members the Boy Scouts could be prohibited from using any local, city or state parks and buildings for their activities.

5.)  Homosexuality is not an immutable or unchangeable characteristic.  This is not a civil right issue.

6.)  All Americans receive equal protection under the law and extending special protections to a group of people simply because of the sexual activity in which they engage is wrong!
