THE DANGER OF INTERNET PORN

July 22, 2008 -- The Third Circuit Court rules that the Child Online Protection Act (COPA) is unconstitutional!  Simply asking for a credit card number or other means to confirm that the user is over 18 years of age is too restrictive according to the Court.

March 30, 2007 -- XXX Domain once again nixed by ICANN -- this would have created a virtual red light zone on the internet.

March 22, 2007  -- Philadelphia Federal Judge Strikes Down COPA -- Child Online Protection Act -- pornographers and the ACLU say it chills free speech.

May 2005 -- Do the state libraries know of this law?

November 2004 -- Bill passes to require all public libraries which receive state moneys to have a filter on all computers with internet access.  Thank you Representative Alan Egolf for working so tirelessly on this issue!  This fills a major hole that was left with the federal version of this bill.  Now ALL public libraries, except perhaps two in eastern PA, must comply with this new law because they receive our state tax dollars.

February 6, 2004 -- 8 year-old girl brutally attacked, raped and left for dead in women's restroom in the branch of Philadelphia's Free Library.  The alleged perpetrator regularly accessed pornography on the library computer.
