THE PLAYHOUSE--Cherry Tree Township
HYDETOWN BOROUGH COUNCIL
RECOGNIZES THERE IS A PROBLEM IN CHERRY TREE TOWNSHIP AND THEY TAKE STEPS
TO SEE IT DOESN'T HAPPEN THERE!!
SEE BELOW
Located off Route 8 between Oil City and Titusville.
According to one billboard, it is the area's first "Gentleman's
Club." Yet another billboard near Clarion says: "Proud to
bear arms and everything else." Will the "true" Playhouse
please stand up!!
Sitting outside the "establishment" one recent Friday
night, we observed between 40 and 50 cars in the parking lot.
"Whatever" it is making an impact on many individuals and families.
Obviously their "services" go beyond the local
area as indicated on a sign outside the building. Are some people
looking for more than deer in those hunting camps?
NOTE: IT IS NOT OUR INTENTION TO ADVERTISE THIS
"BUSINESS" THUS WE HAVE TAKEN THE PRECAUTION OF REMOVING PHONE
NUMBERS AND SPECIFIC DIRECTIONS.

Hydetown law stops unwanted businesses
by Jon Sherman
HYDETOWN - In an effort to forestall problems which have bedeviled their neighbors, Hydetown Borough Council Wednesday evening unanimously passed an ordinance prohibiting "certain lewd and immoral conduct in public places within the borough."
Also passed into law without dissent at the special meeting was an ordinance prohibiting the keeping of certain animals, birds and reptiles.
Both ordinances will become effective at the earliest date permitted by law.
The meeting was advertised for 6:30 p.m. in the borough hall, but no residents attended. Once the meeting opened, the ordinances were placed before council for consideration. There was virtually no discussion of either proposal before the votes were taken.
Councilwoman Nancy Worden explained that council had thoroughly discussed the proposals before they were drafted.
Worden also said the "'lewd and immoral conduct' ordinance was passed to give the borough ammunition against what happened in Cherrytree Township."
An adult night club, the Playhouse, opened on Petroleum Centre Road. The business features exotic dancers, and complaints have been raised from residents. Cherrytree Township has no zoning ordinance.
Hydetown, however, is zoned but council wanted to take steps that would eliminate such businesses from locating in the borough.
Specifically, the ordinance states that one is in violation of the ordinance if someone in a public place:
• Engages in sexual intercourse.
• Engages in deviate sexual intercourse as defined by the Pennsylvania Crimes Code.
• Appears in a state of nudity.
"Public place" includes all outdoor places owned by or open to the general public and all buildings and enclosed places owned by or open to the general public, including such places of entertainment as taverns, restaurants, clubs, theaters, dance halls, banquet halls, party rooms or halls limited to specific members, restricted to adults or patrons invited to attend, whether or not an admission charge is levied.
Convicted violators will be sentenced to pay a fine of not more than $1,000 or be imprisoned for not more than 90 days, or both. Each day such violation continues is a separate offense.
The animal ordinance came about, Worden said, because of certain requests that had been received by council members. One was for a mountain lion to be housed a fairly short distance from the school.
Among its clauses, the ordinance states that no one shall keep or maintain for any period of time any livestock, chickens, ducks, poultry, fowl, reptiles, rodents or exotic wildlife, as defined by the Pa. Game and Wildlife Commission.
"Exotic wildlife" includes bears, coyotes, lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, cheetahs, cougars, wolves and any crossbreed of these animals. The prohibitions of the ordinance on livestock, chickens, ducks or poultry does not apply when the following conditions are met:
• Housing and pasturing for such animals shall not be within 100 feet from any property line.
• Housing and pasturing for such animals shall not be within 200 of any adjacent property's dwelling.
• Waste shall be disposed of in a matter that will not noxious to any other property.
