February 26, 2002 -- "SEXUAL ORIENTATION" BECOMES A CIVIL RIGHT IN ERIE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA!

 DETAILS

ERIE COUNTY COUNCIL CONSIDERS AN "ANTI-DISCRIMINATION" ORDINANCE WHICH INCLUDES THE WORDS "SEXUAL ORIENTATION" AND "GENDER IDENTITY"

In actuality such ordinances are discriminatory "homosexual special rights" ordinances.  All citizens of the United States have equal protection under the law.

The first reading of the ordinance was on December 18, 2001.  During the January 8, 2002 Erie County Council meeting, it was tabled for up to 30 days to give the new county executive, Rick Schenker, an opportunity to read through the more than 35 page document.

If this ordinance passes it will give special rights to homosexuals and take away the rights of others.

Below are a few of the problems this ordinance will present to Erie County residents, if it is passed.

  • Christian landlords will not be permitted to turn down homosexual "couples" because of their religious convictions.

  • Churches or any "religious organization" which receives ANY government funds would be forced

to hire homosexuals.  "Does not include religious, fraternal, charitable, or sectarian corporations or associations, EXCEPT such corporations or associations supported, in whole or in part, by governmental appropriations."  (Article IV, Section M of proposed ordinance)

-- Catholic Charities receives government funds

-- are there any Christians pre-schools or schools that receive government funds in Erie County?

  • Article IV, Section FF: "'Sexual orientation' means male or female heterosexuality, homosexuality,

bisexuality, or any other gender identity, by practice or as perceived by others."

This wording is so radical only about two dozen cities in the nation have adopted this wording. Even openly "gay" congressman Barney Frank sees the danger in this and is opposed to its inclusion in ENDA, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. He warns that "transgender" activists will take this wording and demand that men who think they are women must be allowed to use women's restrooms and showers.

Rep. Frank said: "There are workplace situations -- communal showers, for example -- when the demands of the transgender community fly in the face of conventional norms and therefore would not pass in any Congress. I've talked with transgender activists and what they want -- and what we will be forced to defend -- is for people with penises who identify as women to be able to shower with other women. There are no votes for that. And if that is the price for this bill, it is wrong."

Needless to say he did not win any popularity contests with the transgender crowd.

  • Article III -- ". . . sexual orientation . . . is hereby recognized as and declared to be a civil right which

shall be enforceable as set forth in this Ordinance."

Homosexuals are not a "true minority."  Homosexuals do not meet the three criteria that characterize minority groups that have been given special legal protections.

  • Economic Deprivation -- A 1997 study of "gay" newspaper readers conducted by Simmons

Market Research Bureau in New York found that the average homosexual's income was $47,000. The findings also showed that 21 percent of homosexuals have household incomes exceeding $100,000.

  • Political Powerlessness -- The National Gay & Lesbian Task Force spokesman David Elliot

proclaimed at a National Press Club event in September 2000 that "The Gay vote is large,  powerful, and able to swing a closely contested election."   The top eleven homosexual activist groups spent approximately $36 million in 1999 fighting for homosexual "rights" according to The Washington Blade.  This figure DOES NOT include the $1 million budget of the homosexual legal arm of the American Civil Liberties Union.  According to a Gill Foundation study, in 1999 homosexual groups across the country reported a total budget of nearly $100 million!

  • Immutable Characteristics -- minority groups share immutable, benign, non-behavioral characteristics

such as race, ethnicity, disability or national origin.  Homosexuals are the ONLY group to claim minority status based on behavior.
