January 2007 -- District Attorney Jim Epstein Says He Will Not Run for Re-election.  Lets pray that the citizens of Mercer County will vote in a new DA who will vigorously enforce the bottle club law.

October 27, 2005 -- Undercover Greenville/West Salem Police discover alcohol being available in the Headliners Club -- in direct violation of the bottle club referendum that overwhelmingly passed in May 2003.  The strip club is closed down for the evening.  A citation is to be issued!

October 7, 2005-- informational meeting of the newly formed Mercer County Coalition Against Pornography.

September 2005 -- We are still waiting!!

August 2005 -- Mercer County DA says he has referred complaints to the Greenville/West Salem Police Chief.  The Police Chief says that as soon as he gets an okay from the West Salem Township supervisors he will issue citations to the Headliners Club.

July 2005 -- AFA of PA sends another letter to the Mercer County DA advising him of The Headliners Club's continued advertising as a BYOB.  There seems to be some misunderstanding with the new Greenville/West Salem Police Chief about the Headliners Club being grandfathered in when it comes to the bottle club law.  The AFA of PA provides him with a copy of the legal opinion of  the Chief Counsel for Representative Jerry Birmelin, the primary sponsor of the bill that would become the bottle club law -- there is no grandfather provision!

January 2005 -- The Headliners Club continues to advertise in the New Castle News Bridal Section as a BYOB.  This has been illegal activity since July 2003.  Where is the Mercer County DA?

September 2004 -- No area golf courses are interested in allowing another Skinvitational on their property!!

August 11, 2004 -- The PA Supreme Court refuses to hear an appeal by Eric Boron, owner of Adultland XXX in Pulaski Township, Lawrence County.  Their ordinance stands and the business must comply!         News Release

April 2004 -- Sugar Grove Township, Mercer County successfully passes a Bottle Club Referendum -- now the Mercer County DA has double trouble!

The Headliners Club is no longer advertising as a BYOB in most area newspapers!  (However the New Castle News continues to advertise it as a BYOB. ) Has the Headliners finally gotten the idea that it is illegal for them to operate as a BYOB since the residents voted "NO" to bottle clubs in May 2003?

Christmas Eve 2003 -- two police cars sitting in front of the Headliners Club door??  New Year's Eve -- no activity at the Headliners Club???? What is happening?

Contact AFA of PA to find out how your municipality can take the same steps West Salem Township and Dalton Borough have taken to protect their families.

September 2003 -- Tanglewood Golf Course in Pulaski Township hosts 'First Annual Skinvitational' to benefit the Headliners Club.

July 26, 2003 -- Bottle Club law goes into effect in West Salem Township, Mercer County -- what will the DA do?  In a phone conversation several days ago with AFA of PA director Diane Gramley, Mercer County DA vows to uphold the law!

July 17, 2003 -- Courts uphold Pulaski Township's licensing ordinance.  Under public pressure the township put a licensing ordinance in place to regulate SOBs, in particular Adultland XXX.  This adult book store opened for business in February 2000, under public pressure the township passed a licensing ordinance in May 2000.  Today the PA courts find their licensing ordinance, which requires police background checks among other things, to be constitutional -- even though it went into effect three months after the bookstore opened its doors!  The Headliners Club and Adultland XXX apparently are owned by the same man.

May 20, 2003 -- Both West Salem Township, Mercer County and Dalton Borough, Lackawanna County successfully pass a Bottle Club Referendum!!  According to the law, thirty days from certification of the vote no bottle clubs can legally operate in either municipality!!

March 2003 -- West Salem Township, Mercer County concerned citizens make history!  They have successfully collected enough signatures to force a bottle club referendum on the May 20 primary ballot.  The following question will appear on the ballot: "Do you favor the prohibition of the operation of establishments, commonly referred to as  bottle clubs in West Salem Township?"  As we have researched, the best that we can tell they are the FIRST municipality to successfully force such a referendum on the ballot!!  Congratulations citizens of West Salem for being concerned enough to get involved and make a statement!

Dalton Borough, Lackawanna County will have an identical referendum question on their May 20 primary ballot.  A combination of concerned citizens and concerned borough council members placed the question on the ballot as well as passed zoning and licensing ordinances to prevent a sexually oriented business from moving into the borough!  They are a good example of how elected officials and citizens can work hand in hand to protect their communities.
