Issue
Thank Speaker Johnson and Congresswoman Nancy Mace
Details
The Democrats say the transgender issue isn’t that big of a deal, although the American voters sent a clear message on November 5th that it really is a big deal to them. Delaware made history on November 5th by electing the first openly transgender member of Congress. “Sarah” McBride (formerly Tim McBride) will fill Delaware’s lone seat in the US House of Representatives. Rightfully so, the thought of a biological male who identifies as female being permitted to use the women’s restroom in the US Capital brought immediate pushback. Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., a survivor of sexual assault, led the charge against allowing McBride from using the women’s restrooms on Capitol Hill. She introduced H R 1579 which would prohibit members, officers and employees of the House from using facilities other than those corresponding to their biological sex. The bill would direct House Sergeant-at-Arms William McFarland to enforce the new provision. It has been referred to the House Administration Committee. For her efforts Congresswoman Mace has been receiving death threats.
McBride, the national spoke person for the Human Rights Campaign (the nation’s largest LGBTQ lobby group) from 2016 until 2021 said the resolution is “a blatant attempt from far right-wing extremists to distract from the fact that they have no real solutions to what Americans are facing.” Another note: In 2014 McBride “married” Andrew Cray, who also identified as transgender. Democrats have come to McBride’s defense.
In the meantime, House Speaker Mike Johnson has set down the rules, “All single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House Office Buildings — such as restrooms, changing rooms, and locker rooms — are reserved for individuals of that biological sex. It is important to note that each Member office has its own private restroom, and unisex restrooms are available throughout the Capitol. Women deserve women’s only spaces.”
McBride says he disagrees with the rule, but will follow it. BUT remember he is a transgender activist!
