January 22, 1973 is a day that shall live in infamy, to borrow FDR’s response to the December 7, 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
There is no doubt life is precious to God. The Psalmist writes in chapter 139, verse 13 “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” God created the unborn baby and he or she is worth fighting for! Yet since abortion was legalized in 1973 almost 60 million American babies have been killed in the womb – that’s the entire population of California and New York! The value of life has so diminished that some babies who survive abortion are simply allowed to die lying naked and alone in a cold dark room. What kind of barbaric nation have we become!
Here’s a little history of the abortion debate in the US:
1959
The
American Law Institute (ALI) proposes a model penal code for state abortion
laws. The code advocates legalizing abortion for reasons including the mental
or physical health of the mother, pregnancy due to rape and incest, and fetal
deformity.
1967
Apr.
25: Colorado
Gov. John A. Love signs the first “liberalized” ALI-model abortion
law in the United States, allowing abortion in cases of permanent mental or
physical disability of either the child or mother or in cases of rape or
incest. Similar laws are passed in California, Oregon, and North Carolina.
1970
Apr.
11:
New York allows abortion on demand up to the 24th week of pregnancy, as Gov.
Nelson A. Rockefeller signs a bill repealing the state’s 1830 law that banned
abortion after quickening except to save a woman’s life. Similar laws are
passed in Alaska, Hawaii, and Washington state.
1971
Apr.
21:
The U.S. Supreme Court rules on its first case involving abortion in United
States v. Vuitch, upholding a District of Columbia law permitting abortion
only to preserve a woman’s life or “health.” However, the Court makes
it clear that by “health” it means “psychological and physical
well-being,” effectively allowing abortion for any reason.
1972
By
year’s end a total of 13 states have an ALI-type law. Four states allow
abortion on demand. Mississippi allows abortion for rape and incest [1966]
while Alabama allows abortion for the mother’s physical health [1954]. However,
31 states allow abortion only to save the mother’s life.
New York
repeals its 1970 abortion law, but Gov. Rockefeller vetoes the repeal.
1973
Jan. 22: The U.S. Supreme Court issues its ruling in Roe v. Wade,
finding that a “right of privacy” it had earlier discovered was “broad enough to encompass”
a right to abortion and adopting a trimester scheme of pregnancy. In the first
trimester, a state could enact virtually no regulation. In the second
trimester, the state could enact some regulation, but only for the purpose of
protecting maternal “health.” In the third trimester, after
viability, a state could ostensibly “proscribe” abortion, provided it
made exceptions to preserve the life and “health” of the woman
seeking abortion. Issued on the same day, Doe v. Bolton defines
“health” to mean “all factors” that affect the woman,
including “physical, emotional, psychological, familial, and the woman’s
age.”
2019
January 18: 100,000 pro-lifers brave the cold in Washington, DC to participate in the 46th Annual March for Life. The theme this year is “Unique From Day One.” Vice President and Second Lady Pence showed up in person, much to the delight of the crowd. President Trump addressed the gathering via live stream.
“Advances in science and technology support the humanity of the child in the earliest, earliest stages in the womb,” Jeanne Mancini, president of March for Life told Breitbart News Daily host Alex Marlow ahead of the event on Friday on the National Mall.
There you have it in black and white! The good news is that polling shows the millennial generation is increasingly pro-life. Let’s pray that holds out as some decide to run for public office! Unfortunately, they and so many others are not aware of the influence of Dr. Alfred Kinsey on the abortion, pornography and LGBTQ+ debates, but that’s for another day!
In the meantime, the reality is Planned Parenthood is promoting the LGBTQ+ agenda through their sex ed materials and their support of activity centers for teens who identify as LGBTQ. Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger grew up in a broken family with an alcoholic father. She concluded that the solution to poverty and pain was the elimination of human beings by “preventing the birth of defectives, or of those who will become defectives.” This was her own definition of birth control (Women and the New Race, Chapter 18). Planned Parenthood promotes homosexuality as a means of curbing the population. Planned Parenthood’s 1969 Jaffe revealed that their “LGBT advocacy” had nothing to do with equality and everything to do with quantity.
The number of abortion clinics in America continued to decline in 2018, following a trend that has seen an overall decrease of 159 abortion facilities since 2012. Overall, in 2018, 40 abortion facilities closed or no longer qualify as abortion clinics. As of December 31, 2018 there were 697 surgical and/or chemical abortion facilities in the US, 15 are in PA. Even with decreasing number of abortion clinics, too many babies are still being killed.
The PA Department of Health reports that 30,011 babies were aborted in 2017. That’s almost the entire population of Wilkes Barre! Eighty-seven percent of those seeking abortions were unwed mothers, again proof of the damage done by the anti-abstinent message and the devaluing of marriage and family. Most of the abortions—83.6 percent—were performed in five counties in the Commonwealth: Philadelphia, Allegheny, Dauphin, Delaware and Northampton. A chart based on residency shows that the least number of abortions were performed on women from Bradford, Sullivan, Fulton, Susquehanna, Tioga, Cameron and Forest counties, which had five or fewer abortions listed.
