Corbett is Wrong to Not Appeal Jones’ Decision

(Harrisburg) — Governor Corbett’s announcement today that he would not appeal Judge Jones’ outrageous decision on our Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) shows his lack of will power to defend something he says he supports. The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide advocate for natural marriage, is outraged that the Governor has chosen the easy road.

“To allow Pennsylvania’s DOMA be struck down without a fight is beyond belief. The majority of Pennsylvanians know marriage is only between one man and one woman and to not appeal the decision sends the message that the Governor does not hold that strong belief — if he did he would fight for it,” Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA remarked in response to the Governor’s announcement.

To allow one unelected judge, who is unaccountable to the people, to make such an important decision that will negatively impact Pennsylvania’s families is outrageous.   Pennsylvania is below the national average at 2.7% of the Pennsylvania population identifying as LGBT, yet they have been permitted to redefine marriage.

“To rewrite Pennsylvania’s marriage laws is the responsibility of the legislature, not an unelected judge. We have been reduced to an oligarchy rather than a representative republic,” Gramley further stated.
